Pointless Back at Television Centre

By | September 12, 2017

Of interest to fans of Pointless and fans of television studios, the next run of Pointless starts filming on October 9th through to November 16th at the new refurbished Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush. Which seems as good a reason to go as any. Jonathan Ross is also currently filming his chat show there.

You can apply for tickets at SRO.

Edit: In other news, Susan Calman will be fronting Armchair Detectives.

The problem is that you probably wouldn’t even notice the difference unless the set gets a massive overhaul. Which in truth is needed.

I’m struggling to see this as a problem, the subtext is TVC is back open and taking audiences again and this is a good opportunity to go and see it. Pointless will probably switch filming between TVC and Elstree in the future as studio space allows. It will not be the first show to film episodes at two different places.

I, too, would like to see them give it a makeover, especially as the graphics are pushing readability at times – particularly picture questions where some of the faces are as large as a postage stamp on my telly. However, if they go too radical with it, people will start to spot the joins between the new shows and the r*p**ts.

Without meaning to sound rude here, may I ask how you would change the Pointless set?

It would certainly have to be an evolution rather than a revolution. All of Countdown’s set changes have been evolutions – even when they changed from the winged set to the stripy pink/purple one in 2003, and from that set to the blue one in 2009, the basic layout remained the same (letters game and numbers game boards, Dictionary Corner, champion, clock, challenger and host, from left to right).

Podium redesign so it can be adjusted for less able people. The numbers on the podium can be 3Ded so stands out more. Maybe a moveable laser to show the cutoff mark. There is probably more but I see what people think before I take their ideas

Here’s something interesting. A new action adventure game show for CITV. From Zodiak, “the makers of Fort Boyard”, Spy School promises code cracking and assault courses.

It’s good that ITV are getting some more non-imported programming, they have definitely put a bit more money into the channel in recent years with Thunderbirds and Bear Grylls.

It sounds like a good idea but my fears are it could just become a carbon copy of Fort Boyard.

    Huh.

I thought that AD was going to be based as a civilian, serious version of murder of Sucsessville with some one like Tom Bell/James Mackenzie hosting in-character. but no, its studio based quiz with susan calman looking at the press release. Ah well.
Would susan calman work good in immersive theater? probably not.

Oh right, also found a new press release for the new cbbc gameshow fear falls, witch describes the show in detail.
Brand new CBBC format sees children on a quest to return freedom to the universe in a sci-fi, cyberpunk, space-opera adventure gameshow.

“Objective Media Group Scotland and Panda TV have been commissioned to make Fear Falls (working title) for CBBC.

The 10×30’ television series sees virtual reality meet actual reality as young contestants control heroic avatars to navigate dystopian industrial environments from the comfort of their own homes.

In an echo of videogames, the players command real life actors playing the avatars, speaking directly with them and seeing what they see, as they overcome a series of obstacles on a mission to help the forces of good overcome a dark and mysterious nemesis. No pixelated graphics, no CGI, just real people, real sets, real tension and real fun!

Commissioned by Cheryl Taylor with Executive Producer Hugh Lawton and created by OMG Scotland’s Toby Stevens and Ryan Meloy, the pioneering series will use the latest tech to enable contestants to be involved from all corners of the UK, playing directly from home. The CBBC viewers will be gripped not only by the play along aspect of the puzzles, but also by the continuing storyline in this unique, futuristic and dramatic gameshow.

Head of OMG Scotland, Toby Stevens said, “We’re thrilled that CBBC have greenlit this genuinely innovative idea. We know young audiences love big characters, an immersive experience, puzzles, a dramatic storyline, watching their peers play games and goodies vs baddies. Successfully blending all of these will ensure a show they will love.”

Hugh Lawton, CBBC Executive Producer for Independents added, “Cyborgs, freedom fighters and quests to save the universe. This brand new concept is so exciting. I wish I was 12 years old!”

Fear Falls will be produced by Objective Media Group Scotland and Panda TV for CBBC.

The series will be executive produced by Stevens for OMG Scotland and Moira Ross for Panda and will TX in 2018.”

So, it looks like a rival of the satellite game, anyone?

I quite like the idea of this show, been a while since a show aired like this.

The Danish version returned last week and it’s one of the most succesful shows last week despite airing against Danish Strictly. It’s on every friday at 8 pm on DR1 and you should be able to watch it on dr.dk/tv. I don’t like it that much, but couldn’t bother watching any episodes entirely yet.
