Show Discussion: I Don’t Like Mondays

By | April 5, 2018

Fridays, 8pm,
Channel 4

Workers of the world unite! Alan Carr gives people the chance to win an entire year off work and a year’s salary (£8,000! Nice!) provided they’re willing to resign there and then. It’s never been done before, provided you conveniently forget 2000 to 1.

That’s the premise, but we’ve no idea of the format at time of writing. It looks like some sort of 1 vs 100 style wall behind Alan here, and we’ve seen a picture of what looks like Amanda Holden interviewing someone. If they’re just going to pick a winner based on that I’m not sure it will hold my attention, but we like Alan so who knows?

Interestingly a six episode commission but only three going out in this run. Never quite sure what to make of that.

Watched it? Let us know what you thought in the comments.

I was in the audience for this a couple of times.

The show is very much a comedy show. The main emphasis is on stunts carried out by Alan and his guess to generate 2 random numbers. These numbers will correspond to 2 of the 200 people who applied to be in the audience, each of them has their resignation letter on them.

The two people selected then go head to head. All they do is answer a work based percentage question. The person closest goes through to the final 3.

This is repeated 2 more times.

The stunts took forever set up and the actual games were over in seconds.

The final 3 then got strapped to a spinning clock and spun round. If they landed on the Monday they got a question, get it right carry on… wrong then your out of the game.

The winner gets the largest salary out of the three finalists and has to resign there and then via email.

The shows were recorded in August.

Thanks Falklad! I heard it was quite Toothbrushy and that sounds more interesting than the publicity photos suggest.

Recorded in August, maybe Channel 4 are finally getting through their backlog and will find A Place In The Sun…err Schedule to drop in the £100K Drop soon! Only the 60 episodes of it! The trouble with not airing it until this summer is the fact they recorded using the old tenners so that’ll look quite a bit out of place unless they do some magic in the editing suite.

Not entirely sure where the last few seconds of the revival Krypton Factor theme came from butnot complaining. Little in the way of actual game but a perfectly pleasant way to spend an hour.

    0.53m excluding +1, I can’t see it returning.

I did enjoy it, but it did feel light on the games.

Yeah, this was OK but nowhere near being a must watch, it’s wish fulfillment meets Talking Telephone Numbers basically, and making all the questions work-related feels rather limiting. More stunt, less chat I think, it certainly doesn’t have the ‘anything might happen!’ feel that Toothbrush did, for example, but is fairly important in a show like this. It’s a bit too safe.

And yes, good spot on the Farrer Krypton Factor theme at the end there.
