May the Fifth be with you

By | April 23, 2018

Reports suggesting that the all new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson will be launching on Saturday May 5th. Dumb move ITV! That’s the night of the next Schlag den Henssler and the nation will be tuning into our commentary.

You’ve doubtless seen it already but here’s the trailer:

In other news thanks to Dan for pointing out this very intriguing call for contestants which I don’t want to get lost:

ITV is looking for people to take part in a new gameshow called Take the Towerhttp://www.itv.com/beontv/shows/takethetower

“A brand new ITV game show is looking for a heroic team leader and three teammates to take on our tower and escape the clutches of an evil villain – and have the chance of winning cash prizes and a holiday.

To Take The Tower you and your team will have to answer questions and tackle physical and mental challenges based on iconic action movies. The more questions and challenges completed, the more the prize pot of cash increases. After different fun and varied rounds on each floor of our tower featuring physical gameplay, mental puzzles and tough trivia, our hero and any freed teammates at the top of the tower face an evil villain waiting to offer a final deal – a win or lose head to head challenge with him that could result in cash and/or a holiday with the team leader and his or her teammates – or absolutely nothing at all.”

This sounds right up our alley frankly, Dero crossed with Incredible Games. And it’s going to be for ITV4 apparently, so goodness knows what sort of budget it’s going to have.

Of course if you’re trying to escape an evil villain you want to be going down a tower to the exit not up towards him, surely. Already I have broken the format.

A long shot perhaps, but if anybody has a spare audience ticket going for any of the below Millionaire recording dates, give me a shout if I can tag along. Due to overwhelming demand (Damn you Clarkson fans, it’s Millionaire not Top Gear / The Grand Tour audience you know!) it seems no more are available 🙁

    Thursday 3rd May – show at 6:00pm
    Friday 4th May – shows at 5:00pm, 7:45pm
    Saturday 5th May – shows at 2:00pm, 4:45pm
    Sunday 6th May – shows at 2:00pm, 4:45pm

Bar the few specials that were live, is this the closest Millionaire has ever gone from being recorded to going out? As John points out, it records Thursday then is on TV Saturday.

I believe there is also a “recording” this Thursday (26th) but I believe it’s a tech rehearsal that won’t be broadcast, but tickets were available early on. Maybe some more stuff will come out at the end of the week

The original ones when it was originally stripped went out the day after filming.

It’s amazing how many people assumed the show was live when it started.

I have tickets for the 26th, but I may not go if it’s just a tech run-through (asked Lost In TV, they didn’t reply). John R, if you want them, they’re yours.

Without spoiling the joke I wouldn’t watch while you’re eating.

The guy in the picture is Teo Mammucari, the host of the short-lived Italian version.

There’s an old game by Douglas Hofstadter called Mediocrity where the only person to score any points in any round is the middle of the three players. However, to win the whole thing, you also have to be the middle scorer at the end.

And he’s doing a new gameshow too called Strike- Think Bullseye but with tenpin bowling instead of darts from the rough translation of an article I read; 3 ep trial run..

Take The Tower reminds me of that one show Swap Team. If they can match the quality of a kid’s show from 2000…

To be fair, they did Swap Team on the Norwegian set (where it was called The Perfect Crime IIRC) so probably not that expensive for them.

Take The Tower sounds like Bowser’s Tower from Mario Party Island Tour as a gameshow…

Hardly a story there! Probably quite easy to answer all 15 when you’re getting paid £80 whatever, you’re hardly going to say ‘I’ll take the fake £500k Jeremy!’

This is the problem, should someone happen to win the press will be all over it straight away, it was difficult enough to try (and fail) keep under wraps in the year 2000 with rubbish Internet and very little social media!

It would be nice if any £500K winners throughout the series were sent on their way then invited back at the end of the series as part of a live show to have a go for the million, but logistically not possible I suppose.
