Stool Pigeon: The Results

By | June 14, 2018

Well we got SIX bits of information, the veracity of which we can’t prove, the only people who know the truth are the stool pigeons themselves.

So see what you make of these:

  • During Hive Minds test recordings, the software broke down because I got frustrated about not being able to find any answers and decided to just enter the whole grid as one word. Fiona Bruce was mildly amused.
  • When I was on Countdown, Dictionary Corner guest Gloria Hunniford came up to me outside my dressing room and asked me if I like having my nipples pulled during sex.
  • CJ de Mooi will be making his TV comeback as a boffin on the upcoming Game of Your Life.
  • I have nothing to contribute but I would love to know what has happened to all of the 15 to 1 episodes recorded late last year!
  • The thing Endemol are filming right now is something where the contestant is in the middle of a large, virtual reality spinning wheel.
  • “I miss call and response catchphrases. They should bring them back.” You do make the rules!

Plenty to chew on there. The Endemol thing, The Moneydrome, does sound a bit like Beat the Wheel that’s been going about, but I still can’t help but feel if it was that the promo would mention Endemol somewhere. Meanwhile it sounds like Game of Your Life might be quite a bit quizzier than expected if the rumour turns out to be true. No idea about 15 to 1.

Quite fun, we’ll probably do this again sometime.

I have to say, I’m gravely concerned about the lack of 15-to-1 as well, considering I was a contestant on Series 9, which was recorded at the end of October 2017. My hunch is that with 100k Drop being in the can for so long and now being shown, and with the World Cup being the big draw for people for the next month, I would think that Channel 4 are biding their time before showing it. I have heard stirrings that the episodes MAY start showing in late August, but I can’t confirm or deny anything until I hear concrete proof.

I don’t think The Moneydrome has any connection to Beat The Wheel, which is a format from Global Agency – the people who made Joker with Olivier Minne for France 2 (which is on its way to Portugal, I notice).

Yes, that’s my reading too – presumably two companies selling similar ideas at the same time.

There is more info about The Moneydrome here:
      https://www.altrospettacolo.it/the-moneydrome-canale-5-alvin-gerry-scotti-puntate/
It seems that a pilot (in Italian!) has been made for Canale 5 in Italy and the Web page above includes a shot of the set whilst under construction.

To save you the bother of translation, the format is that a pair of contestants have to answer six multiple-choice questions, each correct answer giving them a chance to spin the wheel: where they can increase their winnings, decrease them, or lose the lot. If the pair survive that, the end-game is three further questions but without the multiple choice. I don’t know whether the end-game also involves wheel spins or not (the Italian article didn’t say specifically).

I do know that the audience will be sat 4.5 metres off the ground (!).
