Japandemonium

By | July 15, 2018

Did anyone see this on Saturday night? I completely forgot it was on but caught up with it on ITV Hub. Melvin Odoom adds rather unnecessary commentary over clips from Japanese game and prank shows.

So far, so Tarrant on TV. But rather curiously in the credits there’s a suggestion that if you go to japandemonium.co.uk you can watch full episodes the clips came from. But there’s not much there – in fact it’s a different logo to the one used on TV. What’s all that about?

Yes, absolutely empty. And curiously despite it being billed as a full series it vanishes next week.

Good to know Japanese TV is as bonkers as it was 20 years ago.

Yeah – meant to be a six episode run. Perhaps they’re just going to drop it in when there’s a half hour that needs filling.

It’s listed on the otherwise very incomplete advance for the 28th – it’s possible that with the Voice Kids final on the 21st they’re pausing it for a week so they can launch the post-World Cup pre-X Factor Saturday night schedule properly from then, as I know World Of Sport Wrestling starts (a year after it was in their summer advertising) that day.

World of Sport Wrestling took its sweet time coming out because of the booking of the talent involved. WWE took one look at ITV, assumed that they were big competition, and booked as many of the UK stars as possible to attempt to shut them out.

I was sort of into this kind of thing when Sushi TV was out, but really not now. I guess thanks to YouTube starting since then it’s been easy to get Japanese TV show clips when you want without a comedian reading a derivative script over them.

Whilst this is very true, I don’t think I’ve seen any of the clips used on Youtube. Admittedly I haven’t really been looking. Still, AK Bingo.

P.S. Still surprised “I Survived a Japanese Gameshow” wasn’t picked up for a UK remake – it’s a format which actually probably would have worked well with celebs.

I saw this yesterday morning. Thought it was bonkers, but really liked the look of The Tunnels Thanks To Everybody despite the title making zero sense whatsoever.

Or as they kept referring to it in the script – “Hole in the Road”.

What was a bit weird was that some of the shows had been fansubbed, and broadcast with the fansubbing blurred out because it didn’t quite fit the script. I guess that if they didn’t have sponsorship for this it would have been quietly buried

Funnily enough it didn’t do that badly on Saturday, almost two million very early evening, although it was after the football.

Armchair Detectives will not be returning. Presumably because everyone in Midsommer Mortcliffe has been murdered by now.

For those of you that need their murder mystery fix since armchair’s axing, this should cheer you back up. Seeing as its from the creator of ZE, it should be amazing, or at least better than ZTD, seeing how they have a higher budget this time (probably cause they have a new IP).
