Coining it In

By | July 23, 2018

There was a period, after UKGSC/BB Poll Hall of Shamer Tipping Point became successful, where format developers were looking into arcade machines as the basis of the next big hit format.

Ladies and Gents, I present to you, filming on August 7th at TVC, Rollin’ In It with Stephen Mulhern. A pilot for a quiz based around coin rollers. The object is to land a coin completely on the white lines, not touching the black.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find examples of these on Youtube, so here’s footage of an app:

It may well have the will it/won’t it tension of Tipping Point, but we struggle to see it having the same pleasing physics action that TP provides. We shall see. Three celebs play for three members of the public, which is an interesting choice.

Speaking of Stephen Mulhern, where’s In For A Penny got to? Big Star’s Little Star will start going out on Saturday nights from this weekend.

Christ. I genuinely can’t begin to understand how Mr. Mulhern keeps getting shows. Surely there can’t be a person in the world who feels the tiniest twinge of excitement at seeing his face.

I’m now going down a rabbit hole looking for old-style coin-ops you could make a format out of.

Granted you have the wall, but wouldn’t the old style penny arcade plinko/pachinko machines work well, as you dictate the speed of the ball travelling up to the end?

Or just bring back Superball from TPIR :-p

I remember that happening at the time and thought it was funny, only seeing it 30 years later do I realise it was entirely a set-up. Incredible.

I’m hearing some gossip that in for a penny will be going out in Jan to act for a bumper for Sat night Takeaway, if it returns.

Thanks for sharing; the whole channel is superb! Maybe it’s a gag that won’t last forever, but you’ll get a few good tens of minutes out of it. I’m on a bit of a Vic and Bob kick at the moment, and this tickles some of the same funny bones very nicely indeed.

“Schlag Den Star” tomorrow night (Thursday) on ProSieben between Pietro Lombardi (DSDS Singer [Pop Idol]) and Gil Ofarim (Singer and Strictly Come Dancing winner)!

They should make a game show that’s based on those weird Japanese panchinko machine things.
