Wonderwall Wednesday

By | January 15, 2019

If you’re bored tomorrow night, Friend of the Bar and sometime Game Night audience member Ashley Muncaster (aka Ash the Bash) will be playing his own Twitch-chat interactivity enabled version of the Wonderwall from Winning Lines. That’s Wednesday 8pm on Twitch, do have a look. Unfortunately I can’t make it, but we’re very much hoping to do a Bother’s Bar Plays Badly of it in the near future.

Here’s a sneak peek:

The reason Winning Lines is still often seen as the best Lottery quiz is mostly because of the Wonderwall. I would say that it’s probably long since Winning Lines was last on that at least the final round should return.

The viewer at home with their 65 inch telly would also get a better Wonderwall experience in 2019, c’mon Stellify! Although may have to tweak slightly considering nobody seems to use the telephone these days, Whatsapp Lines?

They could probably fit most of, if not the whole, Wonderwall on the screen at once now. I hadn’t thought of that.

Re : WWTBAM reboots – and especially the French one which is taping the two first episodes between today and tomorrow. Unsurprisingly, Ask The Host lifeline is added, still celebrity pairs but outta nowhere, the money tree has been quite modified :
    MILLION
    €300,000
    €150,000
    €72,000
    €36,000
    €24,000 (safe)
    €16,000
    €8,000
    €4,000
    €2,000
€1,000 (safe) then 500/300/200/100. Last part used to be Million/300k/150/100/72/48k(safe) then subsequently halved … which was of no use since any celebrity team would hardly earn less than €24k or more than €72k making the game quite moot. Hoping fore more big winners that way and not just a way to cut corners

I always thought the French money tree looked really strange, so I suppose this fixes it.

Thanks for everyone that came over and helped test out the game play! I had a lot of fun hosting it and also just chatting about game/quiz shows in general in the breaks between. Some bugs to fix, sure, but went far better than I ever expected it would go!

Here’s a link to the VOD for those interested in watching it back: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/364956169

Just watched first half hour of this, nice one and glad so many people turned up to play. Would probably turn the music up a bit. The bugs you are aware of.

Given the delay, I’d possibly only ask to type just the number – I know you’ve added a minute, but all those little things will add up.

Yeah, music definitely needed turning up after watching it back.

It’s a fair suggestion about answering with just the number – I’ll float the idea around to see if others agree on that front. I’m kinda of the mind that it’s ok leaving it as is, but I’m biased, have no latency, and can type pretty well 😛

If you want to sense a disturbance in the force, you (for sufficiently old values of you) may recognise what’s going on here within half a second but IT GOES VERY VERY WRONG VERY VERY QUICKLY:

Of course this was the original US pilot which sold to the UK then Australia, so really *we* are ripping off *them*.

This being said, Australia is the king of creating theme tunes for shows that already exist, but making them slightly different for little discernable reason.
