Sick As A Parrot

By | February 23, 2019

There is literally no reason for this except I’ve had the theme tune in my head this morning. It’s the CBBC crossword quiz Sick As A Parrot. Feels like a lot of effort to play along with these days (Although it’s not like any of the clues are hard or anything, and clearly they couldn’t be bothered to come up with something for “salon”), but still a mildly clever idea. This episode features guests John Kettley, who is a weatherman, and the Chuckle Brothers.

Don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned here, but The Hungover Games presented by Matt Richardson begins on E4 on Tuesday.

I think the title is quite self explanatory!

They certainly tried it in the US.

I’ve only watched the first few minutes before work, highly amused by the lyric change in the titles.

There was an Aussie version of Takeaway announced a few years ago on a different network but it never got to air.

Chris & Julia also present I’m A Celeb in Aus, so I was going to suggest that it is the first time a pair has done the Ant and Dec roles in two remakes abroad, but apparently the same thing happened with the German I’m A Celeb and Takeaway too, according to Wiki at least.

Initial reception seems to be poor, 385,000 viewers (although I don’t know where that puts it in terms of Aussie TV ratings)

I looked at the timeline, was it really 1 hour 40 minutes long?! I can see how a lot of viewers probably had more than enough by an hour in

Strange choice of day really, the audience just seemed to be going through the motions with the thought of work in the morning in the back of their mind probably!

It’s not great – 9th for the night (for reference Married at First Sight was #1 with 1.6m), the main evening news on various channels takes up a reasonable amount of top ten places with around a million. Popular reality does around 800k-1m. Their last series of I’m a Celeb finished last week with just over 800k.

It is however just coming out of Summer season so numbers might pick up. For reference, The Chase got 447k on Friday.

The aborted Takeaway on a different Aus network also proposed to move it to Sundays. Not sure what the big TV days are down under, but I did see a few comments on Twitter saying it felt more at home on a Friday/Saturday. I think they sold it on the “Banish the end of weekend blues” thing, which of course worked so notably over here for….err…”I Don’t Like Mondays”

Why was this show called Sick As A Parrot? I’ve never seen it before and have just skipped through it to get a general gist but other than the theme tune I don’t really get how the show is related to this phrase!
