Way down yonder Australia way, Sunday Night Takeaway continues to have a rough go of it: Episode 3 five-city viewers were down again to just 259k (vs. 1.28m for Married At First Sight), and Channel 10 have announced that the show is moving a half-hour earlier starting next week.

And this week’s games went quite poorly: Two of the three households in Singalong Live somehow didn’t know the lyrics to “Funkytown” (!), and the hapless player in Win the Ads only got *two* questions right … and then decided to *keep* those two prizes. (When asked the all-or-nothing question for fun, she got it wrong anyway.)

Also airing in Germany this Saturday: Flummi Open (Bouncy Ball Open) on Rocketbeans.tv. 12 celebrity teams (though celebrity mainly means people working at Rocketbeans and their friends) will play various rounds to find the new bouncy ball champion. So this will be very much in the tradition of Raab’s sports tournaments. One nice little detail: the audience can play most of the games all afternoon long in the studio. I have no idea whether they could be wildcard contestants or it’s just for fun, but if I were a fan I would really like this opportunity!

Apparently this has been going on for years!

I’ve no idea what the events are, except bounce a bouncy ball into some sort of container/onto a marked area.

It’s been offically announced after casting notices leaked-Press Your Luck and Card Sharks are being revived by ABC for air later this year…

Press Your Luck was last revived as Whammy about 15 years ago, and Card Sharks was last done only a couple of years ago IIRC

Actually I stand corrected, the last version of Card Sharks was in 2001 and is very similar to the UK version of the time, I was thinking of The Joker’s Wild

Have any of the international versions of Pointless been successful? Everything I’ve seen about them seems to suggest they’re all cancelled pretty quickly.

Well the Danish version that aired for a couple of episodes this year were pretty succesful. Not huge ratings hits, but very solid and even getting better or staying at a solid level. Don’t know if it will come back, but if it didn’t cime backe that would only mean something behind the scenes (e.g. licensing costs) was the reason. Otherwise this should definitely get another season imho.

Whilst I am not up with the ratings it seems very settled in the afternoon quiz sequence on France 3. It is part of a fairly unique piece of logistics – the host (Cyril Féraud) also hosts the crossword-based quiz Slam that follows it directly. He does this wearing exactly the same outfit that he has just worn to host “personne n’y avait pensé” previously. There are no repeats (that I have seen) unlike the UK version so (like Countdown in the UK) reference can be made to what day it is etc.

The format has evolved away from Pointless over the years – using some of the elements in a three-team, faster-paced quiz than the UK original (although not as fast-paced as the French version of Countdown is, rattling through rounds like there is no tomorrow)

BTW – by same outfit it isn’t a cheat like always wearing black suit, white shirt – Cyril has possibly the most varied wardrobe of any male TV host.

The Italian one was quite a success, but it never got a second season. The official facebook page is full of complaints about the cancellation.

Oh that’s interesting, I wouldn’t have guessed the Italians would get into it, although I’m aware they localised it more than most.

If possible, could I enter Scott’s competition? (I’m not on Twitter) 🙂
