Poor Dave.

Yep, as suspected, off to C4. Six series over three years starting in 2020.

so 2020 one series but if it is over three years it will mean one year will have 3 series. Lineup will not be confirmed until at least June next year now. I will likely expect Richard Ayoade will undoubtably be a contestant along with Harry Hill.

Pure speculation, but three year could be 3 x 12 month periods, rather than 3 calendar years. So late 2020, 1 series, 2021, 2 series, 2022, 2 series, 2023, 1 series first half of the year, etc.

…it feels REALLY WEIRD to actively be thinking about stuff going out in 2023 I’m going to need a lie down

I imagine this would be the correct interpretation, rather than the 1 year with 3 series.

So two series a year, one of the controllers of the channel promising new talent will still come through, bar no series in the spring, fingers crossed its business as usual.

Slot wise, could imagine it launching at 9.15 after Bake Off next Autumn

maybe or 10 pm Fri night but it could mean The last leg can’t air in the autumn. So probably more like a bake-off lead off on Tues.

Obviously the channel change has delayed production and actually think the break will do it good.

Do wonder if Late 2020 might mean next November if Dave had a clause blocking it airing on another channel for one year.

Harry Hill is a former client of Avalon and they produced TV Burp. Not a hope in hell he will appear and he even sucessfully sued them.

IMO – most comedians working today who have some sort of TV presence will have worked with C4 at some point or another, I’m struggling to think of many who haven’t (Michael Mcintyre, maybe?).

From the above list Richard Ayoade has been interested in Taskmaster publicly in the past, but couldn’t get his schedule to work. I’d put money on him being on S10.

joe Lycett is another loyal C4 presenter recently added. With his watchdog kinda rip off. Also, he is now doing Travel Man but that will probably cause the same issues that Richard Ayoade had previously.

Kathy Burke was asked by a fan on twitter if she ever do taskmaster, she said she liked the show but wouldn’t go on it so she’s ruled out.

Just so I can look clever in the future:

“I’m sure it will be fine, but I’m also sure it “won’t be the same” for a lot of people, even if C4 are completely hands-off. I sort of fear for it. But that’s where we are and it is what it is.”

Channel 4 preffering once again to buy other formats over developing their own stuff. Sums them up really. When was the last time they commissioned their own original entertainment show?

I think this is my overall feeling too. Bake Off, Crystal Maze reboot, now this. Sure, they’re popular ideas at the time, but why not commission the next hit instead? UKTV have been bossing it in entertainment commissioning for some time, and I’m not sure how this helps C4’s rap sheet.

I’m still reeling about them poaching my favourite Yorkshire TV word based gameshow. Needless to say I haven’t watched it since.

Never mind, Dave, there’s a very good silver medal available called The Button

It is quite exciting thinking about the potential Taskmaster replacements. The Button, Documental, Genius Game, Comedians Go Spa-ing…the mind boggles.

It does make me wonder if post Go 8-Bit and Taskmaster if there’s anything else ‘gamey’ that’s recently done a successful stint at the Edinburgh Fringe that Dave could look towards.

Not sure how well they would transfer, but Fringespiration could include a D&D show or the superlative John Robertson’s “The Dark Room”

The Dark Room is supposedly already being developed for television – https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/3191/the_dark_room_tv_show/.

That said, I had the wonderful privilege of being a contestant on it at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, and I have a hard time imagining it translating into a TV show that you’d want to watch every week.

Werewolf Live, hosted by Jon Gracey, is apparently also being developed for television – https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/5437/werewolf_live_on_tv/. I haven’t seen that one – I had a ticket for it at the 2018 Fringe, but ended up not being able to make it.

I can easily imagine Dave making “Comedians playing Werewolf” (hosted by Dara ofc) and it being a bit rubbish.

There could be a potential return of Go 8 bit if the costs can be controlled with the budget freed up by the loss of Taskmaster. But hopefully the button can fill the void. Still Taskmaster styled still with Alex and more importantly will be possible for prize funds if they revise the money tree.
