The INTERACTIVE Board of Excitement 19th to 25th September

By | September 19, 2010

Alright peeps, here are some things to start you off, do add more and I’ll add them later:

  • The Cube (6:45pm, Sunday, ITV1 and ITV HD) – was the last series in HD? Anyway, new series of this begins tonight. There will be a new Show Discussion post momentarily.
  • Only Connect (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4) – Game three features the Radio Addicts vs Taxonomists.
  • Survivor: Nicaragua (Wednesday, CBS) – I quite like the idea of the Medallion of Power, as in theory it should ensure a pretty even balance going into the merge. Unless teams choose not to use it, obviously. It’s also The Amazing Race on Sunday for next week’s Board, watch out for watermelons.

So what else is exciting?

The first series was shown in SD, not sure if it was recorded in HD at the time. ITVHD was around then but only available on Freesat to certain films and football matchs via the red button. The Cube wasn’t one of the programmes.

It’s the final of the Great British Bake Off. Probably Miranda to win.

And Celebrity Antiques Master with Saira Khan (specialism: Victorian furniture – hoodah thunkett?) and some non-gameshowy people.

UC this week: Edinburgh v Jesus Oxford.

It’s very rare that two institutions meet each other in back-to-back series. Last year, Edinburgh came through on a tiebreak, after Jesus had made up a 75 point deficit in the final three minutes.

    Useless information:

    * Edinburgh has appeared in more Paxman Era series than any other institution, missing only three (1995/6, 1996/7 and 1998/9).

    * It has reached the semi-finals on two occasions (1994/5 and 2001/2) and the quarters on four (1997/8, 2004/5, 2006/7 and 2009/10).

    * Last year’s team had quite a ride – squeezing past Central Lancashire and Regent’s Park Oxford, then losing to Imperial before that match against Jesus. Finally, they took on Manchester in arguably the best game of the series, losing by almost the absolute narrowest possible margin.

= Jesus, meanwhile, held off a battling Clare Cambridge and came from behind to beat Warwick, then lost to Alex Guttenplan’s Team, before facing Edinburgh.

= It won the penultimate series of the Bamber Era in 1986 – but had appeared in only one Paxman Era series (2002/3) prior to last year.
