Happy New Year!

By | December 31, 2010

“Hi, it’s John Anderson and The Big O here and on my first whistle, we want you all have a very happy new year!”

Thanks John and Oblivion! I hope you both have a good New Year too.

Well folks, that just about wraps up Bother’s Bar for another year, and goodness what a year full of incide… oh sorry it’s been a bit dull hasn’t it? Never mind.

Look out for the Bother Series of Poker bumpf over the weekend, and possibly (just possibly) details about the Poll of 2010. And find out the answer to the question that’s on everybody’s lips: What new award is replacing the Golden Fiver?

Whatever you do this evening, do it to the best of your ability,
Brig xx

Incidentally the list of broadcaster applications for Eurovision has come in. No real shocks, other than the ones who we thought were in are going for it, and Slovakia decided to stay in after all. Basically Italy, Austria, San Marino and Hungary are back.

I’d like to wish you and yours a happy, prosperous and safe New Year.

So, what would I like to see this New Year, in the realm of game shows?

A third series of “The Cube”, with episodes being uploaded onto the Web not long after they are run on ITV.

I’d like to see BBC America get off its high horse, and pick up “Only Connect” and “Raven” and other high-quality BBC game shows for the American viewer–or, better yet, adapt these shows in American versions. It can be done, amigo!

I’d like to see a US version of “The Cube”. It could well catch on here.

And I’d like to figure out how to communicate better with other game show fans. I’m still rather unsophisticated on the computer.

Anyone watch that The Magicians show on BBC One (and BBC One HD – as it’s chanted by the continuity announcers these days)
last night? There were two really amazing tricks.

1 – 4 people were involved in writing a script for Lenny Henry, and it still sounded silted and unfunny. Fantastic slight of pen trick, that.

2 – Paul Farrar composed the theme tune, and magically made it sound like his themes for Duel and The Krypton Factor being played the same time. Truly stunning sound illusion…

Some people on DS agreed it was lame but me and my mum enjoyed it. The show did feel old fashioned in a 90s show type way even down to Lenny Henry, a 90s presenter.

5.5 million did watch it last night and beat Primeval. I won’t be surprised if it will maintain that next week with Total Wipeout and In It to Win It returning.
