Rubbish Facebook Apps of Our Time

By | March 22, 2011

I’ve just tried out the new Facebook Who Wants to be a Millionaire US app.

On the face of it it plays a fairly decent game, a sort of multiplayer version of the US show’s rules, you can get questions wrong but everyone who gets it right gets the value multiplied by everyone who doesn’t. You can use your “jumps” as free right answers, and the fastest player to give the correct answer gets some bonus cash.

The first game I was playing I was leading the field by quite some way at the end of round one (what can I say? I’m just brilliant). Unfortunately for whatever reason round two didn’t bother to start. So I reloaded it and the game wouldn’t start at all. What a load of rubbish. You can try and play three times per day for free if you’re that way inclined.

On the other hand, you could just browse Uitzending Gemist and watch loads of Dutch telly. Wie is De Mol for the win!

Minute to Win It app review tomorrow.

In the meantime, Million Dollar Drop is torrentable from places if you’re interested. It’s slightly less overwrought than the US one, but I was still getting bored towards the end.

Alright, I’ve played Millionaire again. This time it worked up until round two, where I went to ask the audience and it crashed. Awesome.

Oh wow, in ‘this couldn’t possibly end well’ news, it sounds like there is a US version of Pointless being prepped.

Edit: no, apparently it’s a different improv show called Pointless.

    More Boyard news…

“La production souhaite aussi avoir une plus grande variété des décors. Que chaque cellule soit une ouverture sur un univers différent, avec comme exemples cités pour l’instant : futuristes, jungle, cirque.”

Basically the production team wants to jazz up the rooms, using thoughts such as the future, jungle and circus.

    Crystal Fort Boyard, anyone?

The thing is in doing it properly, though. If it’s done in the same way they’ve done for years (in particular that awesome makeover of Snakes they did in 2008), it’d work. If they went all Finders Keepers on it, it wouldn’t.

Although the latter will probably never happen, but still.
