It’s INFORMATION THURSDAY, and it’s the POLL 2009 RESULT!

By | January 21, 2010

Here.

Poker and Youtube stuff to go up tomorrow now so people don’t miss this most remarkable of posts.

Meanwhile, Greg Scott twittering that he’s going to be hosting an English pilot for Hold On To Your Seat (aka Tout Le Monde Veut Prendre (points) SA PLACE!). Interesting.

Also well done Travis for spotting this. Apparently a US recording of The Cube in London on Feb 4th. What’s that all about, then?

Brilliant to see that a couple of my quotes were used in the final report: “you’re not a game show host, stick to rugby.” with regards to The Fuse, and “A solid game, but the X-Factor style sob stories and ridiculous reasons for picking colours marred it as well as that annoying woman that kept saying ‘Please, please, please’ in front of every machine!” for TCOM.

Can’t disagree with the winners in any category, but having caught it for the first time the other night I don’t see the appeal of We Need Answers at all.

I happen to think it is comedy genius. Needless to say it got votes from me.

Wow, I assumed on recency effect alone that HoT would beat TCoM. (I gave three votes to the former and two to the latter.)

Wishing I’d assumed The Cube would win anyway and given two votes to Accumulate! in the HoF, as then it’d have got a top-five spot there too…

WOW – wowee wowee wow!! Thankyou to everyone who voted for Accumulate! in any category (erm… maybe not the Hall of Shame). I’m very glad we’ve been able to produce some very very bad puns for you to enjoy!

Call me a sadist [obligatory pause….. thankyou], but I quite enjoyed The Colour Of Money – it wasn’t great but I thought there was more of a point / game to it than Million Pound Coin Tossers (aka Heads or Tails). Anyway, both earn well deserved spots on the Hall of Shame.

Interesting to see Divided pop up in the Hall of Fame and Shame.

Great that Paris Hilton’s British Best Friend came joint third in the Hall of Shame, and good to see Countdown in the Golden Fiver – and my comment on Rachel Riley more than proving her worth.

A bit disappointing, though, that UC merely bubbled under despite an increase in its vote share. I guess the disqualification of Gail Trimble’s Team was ultimately more harmful than helpful – could third place have beckoned otherwise? (That’s not meaning at all to take away from Accumulate!’s achievement, Dan.)

      No worries Des!

I believe we’re entering Accumulate! for the National Student Television Awards this March – I’ll keep you informed of any news.

Guess it just shows how bad Paris Hilton’s BBF is. I wouldn’t have thought of voting for (well, against) it as I don’t really consider it a gameshow!

Good on The Cube! Very happy that’s as popular as it is.

    Ditto Only Connect.

Via a friend: One potential US The Cube host is Martin Sargeant. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him on TechTV, but from what I remember, he was pretty funny and he sorta fits the technology theme of the show. (In the way that hosts fitting the themes of their shows makes a huge difference, of course.) Not sure if he could really milk the drama like Phil, but he’d certainly be an interesting candidate.

Simultaneously, if they cast someone like Sargeant, I have to wonder, does this mean they’re screwing with the tension of the show by having a comedian come in and make it a light-hearted affair rather than the pulse-pounding drama show it once was?

Meh. Either way. Sargeant’s “day job”, if you would: http://twit.tv/twif He’s not completely unknown, but you’d be way more likely to know him if you’re the geeky tech sort of guy. Not sure if that would really isolate a chunk of the audience out or not. Likely not, I guess.

Mmm, I think Buzzerblog ran with that but then retracted it as someone who’s in the frame for it. Very tempted to go along to find out first hand.

BuzzerBlog did in fact write up something on this. I, however, was too incompetent to start up my RSS feed reader to see that until the day after. Because I’m that awesome.

And I guess I should clarify, he was “offered an audition”. I don’t follow TWiF, but according to aforementioned friend, who is a TWiFfer (do they clean floors with Twiffer Tweepers?), “Ah, right. I misread the tweet of his I read. However, he was talking on his podcast last week about having a job now and it involving spending some time in England, which is a bit confusing. Especially because they have officially announced putting TWiF on hiatus because of the now “mystery” job. Weird.”

Dang it. My one time to use the tip-off jar, and I’m blowing it here.

For those who missed it first time around or didn’t have access to Sky and/or couldn’t be bothered with iPlayer. BBC Two will be repeating Panic Attack series two from 1st February at 1pm.

As I’ve read US blogs, it seems Twentieth Television, buoyed by the success of 5th Grader as a first-run daily strip, wants to package another programme with it to create a one-hour game block that would be 5th Grader (which carried a new level-based money tree and a “win or lose it all” format; the contestant stays for the entire 21-minute programme). Some are saying The Cube is going to the format. One potential trend could be a panelist on the former US Whose Line Is It Anyway? becoming the presenter — currently four panelists have hosted game shows — Drew Carey (originally Power of 10 (to be known as Power of 5 in the UK when it debuts in the UK – summer 2007 US miniseries ran for a short run as strike-replacement programming), and now The Price Is Right since fall 2007), Wayne Brady (originally Don’t Forget the Lyrics 2007-09, and now Let’s Make a Deal since October 2009), Colin Mochrie (2007 5-episode Canadian 5th Grader miniseries), Greg Proops (Head Games),.

Some how I can’t see Ryan styles being chosen as the host for the cube.
And surely it wouldn’t work as a half hour show?
