Schlag den Raab – 17th December 2011

By | December 17, 2011

It’s the last Schlag den Raab of the year!

Stefan’s lost the last two matches, he won’t want to lose three in a row (it’d be a first, in fact).

It’s on 7:15pm GMT (8:15 CET) on Pro Sieben, and hopefully naughty internet streaming as well.

It’s also the first episode of Winter Wipeout this evening, 6pm, BBC1.

Kandidat 1 is Marcel, an engineer who likes playing badminton, soccer, pelmanism, and has friends who are horrible at Jenga.

Kandidat 2 is Oliver, a military journalist (?), who seems to be practicing all the games from the previous two SdRs as though they’ll come up again this time. He also seems to do krav maga, which might gain at least a few irony votes, given Stefan’s “training” since last time seemed to be aikido.

Kandidat 3 is Elisabeth, a software somethingorrather (apparently, she writes and presents PowerPoints) who’s big into fencing, juggling while jogging, and something else I forgot because I got a phone call.

Kandidat 4 is Hubert, a rickshaw driver who likes surfing, skateboarding, and riding around in that big gyroscope thing from Britain’s Best Brain.

Kandidat 5 is Jens, a personal trainer who pretty much does the same things he has his clients do. Badminton seems to be a running theme among most of the candidates today.

The results are in. It’s not Marcel, it’s not Elisabeth, it’s not Jens and it’s not Hubert. Tonight’s Kandidate is Oliver!

Looks like a very close race this time, particularly in the top 3…

    5. Marcel
    4. Elisabeth… really? Wow. shows how well I can call them.
    3. Jens
    2. Hubert
    1. Oliver

So it’s Oliver v. Stefan for 500,000 Euros.

looks like it’s either a race to light all the candles first or get as many on a match as possible…

Seems to be a straightforward race to light twenty-six candles at once. Interestingly, this game could be really

Actually, wait, it’s lighting as many candles as possible with only one match. I know this because Stefan won this in the middle of me typing the last sentence. It’s 1-0, Stefan.

That sounds about right. Or at least, it feels right considering we’ve had a few jammed into the end of the year, so it’s not likely we’d get a January edition as well.

In the past few years it has gone; January, April, May/June, September, October/November, December.

So it seems a bit odd!

And as usual, a funny competition question.

What can the candidate win on SdR?

    €500,000… or festive trousers?

Well now here’s something different. The first performer isn’t a singer, but a dance group. I heard the word Eurovision in the host’s setup, is Eurovision Dance Contest still a thing? UKGS seems to suggest only ’07 and ’08.

I think it’s first to 15 points. Hilariously, Stefan’s having a hard time grasping the “no carrying” rule.

Oliver, on the other hand, keeps giving Stefan too many points by serving too hard.

Spiel 4 – Fuehlen – Feel. The sidestage opens to reveal the isolation booth, a blindfold, and a covered table.

The tablecloth is pulled back to reveal 15 plates of… cookies? They look like them anyway. Three minutes to identify their shapes. They’re all Christmas-themed (snowflake, angel, tree, etc.).

Aaaaaand the stream went out before the end of the game. Oliver had 6 with about a minute left, so make your own guess. If the other channels are right, they’ve gone straight to a commercial afterward.

from what I can infer from the chat in the feed Stephan won so it’s 10-0 after 4 games.

Yep, 10-0. Game 5 looks like it’s outside, with a bunch of numbered cars in incorrectly-numbered parking spaces. Put the car in the right parking space to win!

Stefan wins, all ten cars in place in about five minutes. Oliver needed to make two more moves to finish.

15-0, Stefan. This could be an early night…

Pretty interesting game I thought- they were given a minute to try and figure out strategy (there’s an 11th space they had to use, so the trick was to figure out which car to move first to minimize the amount of distance you have to go from one car to the next)…

Spiel 6 – If my translation is right, it’s Rotting Trees. Looks like sixteen trees (in two rows) are planted next to the parking lot, my guess is that they’ll be cutting them down. I love how if my translation is correct, they’ve already squashed the anti-environment argument by specifying that they’re rotten.

That limb Dan’s on isn’t cut short, as Stefan easily wins the game, cutting about twice as fast as Oliver. That was a failed tree joke, by the way.

    21-0, Stefan.

By the instant replays, you can tell Stefan isn’t up on axe safety, as he nearly throws his axe after finishing off the last tree.

Or, a stacking game! Players alternate taking a nut from one bowl, and stacking it on top of another bowl of nuts. First to fall loses, methinks.

The more I think about it, this is the first game Oliver has a really good chance of winning, given I can’t remember Stefan having a good record with balance-type games.
