Probably not news but I see they’ve commissioned a ‘whole series’ of 8 Out of 10 Countdowns. 6 episodes, I presume going out on Fridays as before, in the weeks after MPD has finished.

I know they do tend to rate well but how many more times is Jimmy Carr doing something *hilarious* during the countdown and teasers with naughty words in, going to amuse people? Why do they keep getting Joe Wilkinson back?

This whim has now outlived that amazing Celebrity Countdown series from 15 years ago!

That’s also my problem. I love those episodes, but two episodes a year would be enough to keep it interesting! Maybe they should also let other shows do Countdown in this six episode series, this would be interesting as well.

I agree – though the episodes so far have been far more entertaining than the idea of C4 doing yet more episodes of the hybrid. It also shows C4 still have some faith in Countdown – I do firmly believe it’s current ratings problems are all down to decisions made by the incompetent folk running C4 over the last couple of years rather than the show itself.

Absolutely, the format is still strong and I think C4 would be out of their minds to get rid of it – the only thing I would say is put it on less.

However, if I and the Countdown fans I know are any representation, Nick Hewer was a pretty big turn-off. He has improved recently, but I’m still not sure he’s right for it.

and Gerry Scotti said that he’s already working on the gameshow that will replace AUA! next Spring.
He said it’s going to be a musical game, but with some AUA! style comedy. title: “PrendiNota” (Take Note)
