Saturday Summer TV Massacre

By | October 25, 2013
  • That Puppet Game Show? AXED. I said it would be a hard sell, but ultimately it deserved better.
  • I Love My Country? AXED. Harmless fluff.
  • Your Face Sounds Familiar? Apparently there’s “no room for it in the 2014 schedule”, so look out for next Summer it sounds like ITV have MASSIVE plans.

Edit: Good news everyone! It sounds like Break the Safe has been recommissioned. Despite everything.

That Puppet Game Show – not as bad as Don’t Scare The Hare, but had the same fate. Despite the build-up, it appeared to be a CBBC show wandering around the fringe of peaktime Saturday BBC One.
At least it’ll be repeated on the channel, where it should have gone first to build up a bit of word of mouth, and then repeat it on the main channel.

That said, I suspect with Henson/Disney behind it, it’ll notch a few overseas sales so not entirly a failed project.

I Love My Country – which I watched twice, and really wanted to like it – but – suffered from too much shouting cross talking and noise, 5 second in development games to play, Micky Flanagan, and a host who isn’t exactly Miss Light Entertainment.
As Brig said, it was just harmless fluff – only thing missing was the lottery draws, because it felt like it was that kind of show to put them in. And the draws were in the next show, after you sat through people counting to 30 in their heads.

Puppets, noise, and silent counting. Not a great sounding line-up for a Saturday night was it really? 2 gone – is Mr Knowles looking nervously over his shoulder at the hat-trick?

I liked That Puppet Game Show but not enough to pick it out of the schedules.

I thought I Love My Country didn’t work well here (may have been better with a Bruce Forsyth/variety MC in charge) but it’s nice to see BBC experimenting with formats.

Like the other commenters, I don’t have anything to say about Your Face Sounds Familiar.

Good news everyone! I’m hearing Break the Safe is returning despite everything.

Edited to put the right show in.

I think I Love My Country could do with a later timeslot and involve plying the celebrity guests with a little bit of alcohol similar to Hollywood Game Night and I think it would have worked.

This week’s episode of Cube Ukraine has a carryover contestant who begins Game 6 with six lives and the Trial Run. A win in Game 6 would tie the show record of 250,000 hyrvnia because the money tree has been escalated for this series.
