Art of Knightmare

By | July 29, 2014

Do you remember the David Rowe Art of Knightmare Kickstarter from the end of last year?

Well now it’s coming to fruition. It’s out as an iTunes Book on August 8th for £9.99 and you can see a preview and preorder here, if you didn’t pledge earlier. An ePub edition will be published along with the hardback edition later on.

Also! They kept this quiet, David J Bodycombe and the internet’s Louis Barfe are contributors to an ITV documentary series called Come On Down: The Game Show Story beginning August 17th, so look out for that.

I’ve been sitting opposite the team making that for the best part of six months, answering the odd question. I can tell you this, its going to be a bit epic. I cant tell you anything else of course as i’d get the sack i imagine.

Yep, unbelievable. I’ve had sort of thing happen to me, and it’s never gratifying, but then it’s only cost me fifty quid.

    “They kept this quiet”?
    Really, Brig?

I assume this posting/request from one half of the series consultants – Mr B, way back in Feburary was to actually help form part of the series when it airs?

Yes, it’s for an ITV docco series about the history of game shows. It’s 6 x 1 hour, I believe, so they have more time to explore things than the usual ‘William G dropping his question cards’ typical clip show. The production team seemed switched on and keen to get things right so I have good expectations of it.

BTW, The Quest starts up here in the US tomorrow (7/31). Here’s a little on the game format, which is pretty standard:

-The 12 contestants are called “Paladins”

    -There’s an challenge involving everyone.

-The three players who do the worst in that challenge are sent to the “Fates” (three actresses), who give the three another challenge.

-The player who does the best in that challenged is considered “redeemed” and is safe.

-The other two are up for elimination, and the remaining players vote on who they think isn’t the “One True Hero”

-That person is “Banished” from the game realm (via special effects).

I’ve been reading some decent things about it, but the fact they bumped from the winter to now gives me a little pause- at least the good thing is it’s not up against one of the other big summer shows (America’s Got Talent and Big Brother- BB does their live show at 9pm EST, while The Quest airs at 8). A lot is going to depend on how the storyline of the show meshes with the game part of the show- especially how the unscripted contestants interact with the scripted actors…

This is a really neat eBook by the way and if you’re interested in the production process (and of course the art work) I recommend a buy. It also includes lots of faxed briefings from Tim Child which are very interesting – it sounds as though as one point they were considering allowing teams to jump level two. Interesting!
