We were super pleased to discover that Possessed, a production company composed of loads of people Bother’s Bar approve of, are in the very early stages of developing the Genius Game for the UK. Genuinely this is A Bit Of A Result, they’ll ‘get’ the format better than anyone.
However, they also get that there’s nothing like it on British television and that this makes it a tough sell for commissioners. This is where you come in. The hope is that with genuine people demonstrating a genuine enthusiasm for the format, when they show it to commissioners it will help open the door and then the game should sell itself.
They need as many people as possible (at least 12) to wax lyrical about the show – simply explaining what they love about it. They need everyone to give passionate, coherent responses that will make a commissioner give them the chance to show the format at a detailed level.
If you really like the show (and if you’re here you probably do), have Skype and a webcam and would be willing to take part in a call with Possessed staff (and possibly other fans) which will be edited and shown to the relevant people then send an e-mail to possessedcasting@itv.com with ‘The Genius Game’ in the subject line and you’ll be e-mailed back with more information. A broad range of people is ideal so do please get in touch whoever you may be.

ZDF’s Superhirn will be adapted to FOX in January. In Superhumans, 12 people will compete with their special abilities for 100,000$. Kal Penn will host and Mike Tyson will be one of the celebrity panelists talking about the challenges. The studio audience will vote the winner.
I smirk as I recall this was the very first thing you said when announcing the existence of Possessed.

I like to think Possessed was put together specifically to bring The Genius to the UK.
I had the strangest dream the night after Pick Me launched, Possessed had a show which was a combination of The Moment of Truth and American Football. Sorry if you’re reading Paul B, it’s not going to be successful.

Each is paired with a Starcraft 2 legend (from way back in 2011-12; things move quickly in video games).
It’s worth noting that Yohwan briefly played SC2 professionally while Jinho never did, and Yohwan embarrassed Jinho in an SC2 exhibition back in 2011 (the score was technically 2-1, but Yohwan made it clear he was playing with him). By contrast, Jinho won convincingly in a exhibition farewell to the original Starcraft in 2013. And while Jinho never won the big one, he was known to do well in special events…
Managed to pitch why I think Sangmin should be a definite booking for a UK version, should they get to a second series.
I think it will be very different, could become either a more interesting show or a worse version. The Genius is less focused on the drama aspects (though it has its moments) since the public opinion in Korea is very scrutinizing towards celebs. If they play too dirty they could lose their careers (someone did in season 2). This makes for a more lighthearted show most of the time. Western reality TV shows are less restricted and focused more on drama.
