Decimate series 3

By | September 26, 2016

We hadn’t spotted this but the new series of Decimate begins at 2:15pm today on BBC One.

We hear it has new question writers, although we don’t know if they can save the show from still being a bit dull.

UKGameShows.com listing it at least two weeks in advance must have had some effect on the viewing figures… worked here anyway!

What was the first half of Think Tank series 2 getting? Both are much of a muchness in terms of quiz content. People might not be bothered to change the channel. The real test comes when Countdown moves.

I tried, I really tried … but I ended up skipping ahead to the endgame, and even then I was still singularly unimpressed. The same thing that bedeviled Money Drop: Everything is considered a “loss” from the (impossible) starting amount, so nobody ever “wins.” Perhaps an apt metaphor for the 21st century, but not very uplifting teevee. The teams are engaged in a never-ending salvage job.

God. I put this on UKGameshow.com’s worst game show of the year (last year or last 2 years ago?) yet this show is keeping on.

Man, Decimate is as tough as Donald Trump.

Decimate came fifth in the Hall of Shame last year.

Probably an apples-and-oranges comparison here – but Tipping Point has been bubbling under the Golden Five the last two years, after coming second in the HoS in 2012. 😉

The online-only BBUS starts tonight- and I’m intrigued by it.

Here’s some of the differences between this one and the normal USBB:

-It’s shorter; 65 days compared to the recently-ended seasons’ 99 (though the prize money has been cut from $500K to $250K)

-A lot of the signature comps they do in the summer won’t happen here (Zingbot, OTEV Veto, etc.)

-they can do comps that take more time because they don’t have to edit it for the show, though they won’t be as extravagant for budget reasons (I’m hoping for the “who can stay in a cardboard box the longest” comp like BBUK has done several times- cheap to do but funny as all get out, and the first time they did it it took 26 hours and they had to declare a draw)

-they are going in live tonight during the premiere- usually they go in a week before the first episode to get some early footage

-they will have times when they must be up for comps and the like

-Like other BB’s around the world, the audience will vote for the winner rather than a jury of evicted HG’s (there are rumors the audience will have something to do with nominations or evictions as well- they won’t have complete control, but some)

-There will be live Diary Room sessions where the HG’s will answer questions from the audience twice a week.

-since they don’t have to keep comps secret for the TV show, there will be no “scheduled” blackouts (they might have to cut away if they sing or talk about people who didn’t sign releases, but the feeds won’t be down for hours or days at a stretch)

It’s a nice “throwback” to the original vision of BB, and I hope it works out; if not, it was a good attempt (and the summer version will still air for at least 2017 and 2018)

    Meanwhile Bullseye is 35 today.

And it looks like there’s a party on Twitter with everyone invited. Super, smashing, great.
