A sound buy

By | January 29, 2017

I was asked if I could write a very basic guide to setting up some mixing software so you can play audio over Google Hangouts or Skype like we do (now) on Bother’s Bar Game Night so I’ve finally got around to writing it, do let us know how you get on. It’s also under Miscellaneous on the Specials board if need to find it quickly.

Apropos of nothing:

I would have suggested all four but there are no trick questions on Millionaire so I don’t know what the answer is. Probably worthwhile making sure you join us though.

Edit: I’ve literally just discovered Special Forces – Ultimate Hell Week starts tonight at nine on BBC2, we really enjoyed the first one.

Hey people at the bar, next semester I have make a somewhat bigger project and I’m thinking of creating a TV culture magazine. Does anyone know a magazine (should be printed or at least in a print-style digital layout) that covers current telly news, looks at shows around the world, tv series, entertainment, cult programmes and pop culture (and might include TV listings)? It would probably be pretty niche and I know some sports magazines that are like this, but nothing telly related in Germany. Maybe there is something like that abroad? 🙂

I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, it’s been years since I last read a magazine properly. I guess something like SFX (a sci-fi mag) would be closest?

        But there was.

It was called ‘The Box’ and lasted all of three issues – And I still miss it.

Published by Haymarket Publishing – and I brought all three, and was a really good read.

Funny, informative, entertaining and didn’t take it’s readership for idiots (in that it didn’t explain all the television techie terminology when they used it)
In depth interviews. Previews, and from what I remember a almost forensic disection of well known episode of a sit-com.

A little bit more – plus screenshots of the covers – here..

Special Forces was excellent by the way, hilariously brutal – two people quit or forced out in the first fifteen minutes, the task of which was “run round a tree and come back”.

It’s now set in South Africa and Reggie Yates is the new host and he’s as solid as ever.

Just over a million last night which is a bit shocking given the first series was doing closer to two.

Meanwhile the BBC will be showing highlights of the Nitro Athletics tournament and it sounds great fun, like a real life version of Mario and Sonic at The Olympic Games:

    Target Javelin throwing! Elimination running!

It might be rubbish of course but it is promising florescent starting blocks so will give it the benefit of the doubt.

Seems a normal athletics meeting but obviously jazzed up a bit. Elimination running isn’t something that new (they tried elimination races in the Europa Cup a few years ago and it went down like a lead balloon with traditional fans and the idea was abandoned quickly).

Obviously Bolt’s name will give it a load of publicity.

So, not that far off ‘100mts Under Hurdles’ or ‘200 Mts Backward Sprint’ then…

..that was two of the track ‘events’ in International King Of Sports, and I’ll be interested to see how close NitroAthletics veers into IKOS territory next weekend.

Meanwhile, Pro7 has announced who’s going to replace Frank Buschmann: Elmar Paulke, a darts commentator.

The great Sydney Smith said heaven was eating foie gras to the sound of trumpets. You have redefined it as Sid Waddell commentating on Ringing the Bull.
