Wie is De Mol ’15

It’s baaaack!

Bother’s Bar favourite Wie is De Mol? returns in January, this time taking in the environments of Sri Lanka. Ten Dutch celebrities try to complete physical and mental tasks to earn money for the prize fund, but one of them is a plant designed to sabotage the tasks. To win the money, the other celebs must try and best work out… who is the mole?

Last year saw some great new meta-gameage including the black exemptions, nullifying all help in the end of episode elimination tests. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got cooked up this year. Fingers crossed English subbed eps will be going up Youtube, this site looks like it might be worth keeping an eye on. The series begins on 1st January.

Who are they? From left to right (comments from Friend of the Bar Squared Eyes):

  • Martine Sandifort – “Martine is a well known and liked comedian, with a range of characters and impressions.”
  • Evlien Bosch – Presenter, “Evelien does a lot of child programs.”
  • Marlijn Weerdenburg – “Marlijn is an actress, who got her big break in Dannii Lowinski last year on SBS.”
  • Margriet van der Linden – “Margriet is a magazine editor, but mostly a hardcore feminist.”
  • Rik van de Westelaken – “Rik is one of the news anchor of the most important 20.00 NED1 bulletin, he was asked before, but wasn’t allowed to participate, now he is. Obviously.”
  • Viktor Brand – “Viktor is a host for SBS6, doing all kind of shows, expect the big, entertainment studio shows.”
  • Carolina Dijkhuizen – “Carolina is probably a bit unknown for the audience, but a huge musical star.”
  • Pieter Derks – “Pieter is a young, upcoming comedian.”
  • Arjouad El Miloudi – “Ajouad is a host, a combination of research/investigative factual shows and youth programs. Likeable.”
  • Chris Zegers – “Chris used to be more famous than he currently is, was a soap actor, hosted a couple of shows and did a lot of travel formats.”

As ever, we’d love to hear from our international friends, but please remember that this is a UK-based site and we’d ask not to spoil anything in the comments that has yet to be translated (usually a few days after it goes out in the Netherlands). Once it’s up, it’s fair game. Thanks!

Here are links to where chat about episodes start in the comments so you can elect not to spoil yourself:

      Amazing stuff. New font!

There are currently three people on my list, Arjouad, Evelyn and Margriet (I think?). Arjouad because he looks like he’d never be the Mole in a million years, but the train station shenanigans look rather dodgy, and he was out and about a lot in the abandoned building game and it would have been very easy to tug on a camera lead.

Evelyn and Margriet because evidently they left their room unlocked deliberately so the jokers can be found which is evidently setting something up later. I can believe Viktor’s story as basically logical, I’m sure we all know what ‘man-looking’ is.

Cool stuff. Thanks whoever is translating it.

BRILLIANT STUFF! Loved the first episode – plenty of sabotage opportunities everywhere. I feel that this could be quite an argumentative cast (which can be very good telly) – last years was very calm in comparison.

I don’t even have a gut feeling this year as to which of the candidates will be the Mole, which means that you could actually stand a chance in this year’s Suspect List.

Speaking of which, it’s here! SUSPECT LIST, WEEK 1!

Everyone watching WIDM15 is welcome to play along. After each episode, I invite you to write down your suspect list ranking everyone from most likely to be the Mole (10 points) to least likely to be the Mole (0 points). After the finale, the points will all be totted up and a Suspect List champion will be crowned. There’s no prize in it, it’s all for a bit of fun.

So, what are you waiting for?! Submit your first Suspect List here:

    Good luck everyone!

Not sure of anyone just yet- the first task was a bit suspicious in that the only thing that was found just happened to be the least valuable to the team (though the most valuable to a player)- I’d have thought they’d get at least something out of it. The second task had just too many ways for someone to mess things up.

Love this programmer and wow what a quick upload of the English version , thank you

If I was to have done that quiz I would have split my answers between Evelyn , Pieter & Rik

Arjouad is playing a very weird game, he’s acting like he’s never seen the show before but blatantly is a huge fan , I can see him winning

I’ve ruled Carolina out as the mole already, and the editors have put way to much emphasis on victor, he is not the mole

Must admit, Pieter was my #1 Suspect List choice (THIS IS KEES ALL OVER AGAIN)! I’m going to have to have a think about who the Mole is.

    Interesting first episode.

Would the mole messages potentially be alluding to a blackmail type of situation. Keep doing what the mole wants or something bad happens?

I think it’s a distinct possibility – there is a price to be paid. However, it would also be quite interesting if nothing happened at all, but they *think* something will.

As always, brilliant production and presentation. The new font is welcome. I particularly liked the shots in the station game where they managed to have the target commuters in the frame with the contestants without them noticing.

I’m intrigued and pleased by Art’s comment at the beginning that this series the mole will be more on the attack. I wonder if that means we’re going to get more of these individual sidetasks, they seem to be working really well to generate chaos. Personally, I think the ‘price’ might be a literal fine per joker used, although something more interesting could be fun.

I second Dan’s approval at what seems like a more feisty cast this year. I have no idea who the mole might be, but I was sad to see Pieter go home, he seemed like he could be a pretty interesting player.

Thanks very much to the translator(s).

So far, 11 responses to The Suspect List. 6 people have been put down as most likely to be the Mole, and everyone is included in the top two. Good work – it’s safe to say opinion is very spread so far this year!

Week 1’s Suspect List is now closed! Everyone was nominated as least likely to be the Mole, and 8 out of the 9 candidates were nominated as most likely, so we’re pretty spread on opinion right now.

But this year I will reveal each week who the top three Mole candidates are based on their highest aggregate ranking. It’ll be fun to see how this evolves week by week. I’ll reveal the full rankings of each candidate after the series is over.

    This week’s top 3, after Episode 1:
    Equal #2: Ajouad
    Equal #2: Margriet
    #1: Chris

I’ll also say this – just because they’re in the top three, that doesn’t mean they were the person who topped the Suspect Lists most often. Make of that what you will!

Are you watching on a tablet or mobile? I’ve come across videos in the past that look like they’ve been taken down but if you watch on a desktop are still fine.

Thought about that as well, but it’s not even visible on any of my devices. I’ve never had that problem before, but then I’ll try it with some “magic”.

Yet another great episode. My suspicions are still lying with just one person, although I’ve got a firm second-place again in case the person in question Aafs me again (although I did suspect Susan from the pre-season video)! Nice to see former Amazing Race Australia pit stop, Independence Square, host the Test. Hoping for a black exemption again soon, probably with a hefty price tag.

Finally found a way to watch it (though it’s still weird, normally youtube says it’s geoblocked and not “not available).
I think this episode was good, but I didn’t really see any mole action, I think. I thought I had spotted two clues, but one of them proved wrong. And I can’t get all the points anymore, my first attempt to guess the mole is now impossible to be right.
I think the jokers in the cinema were to easy to get, though I liked the task a lot.

My number one mole suspect last week is out πŸ™ sad to see them go too, however after watching this episode they went down in my suspicions anyway

One of the three ladies in the theatre is the mole, there was not really anyway of sabotaging that task unless you were in that spot, unless it’s a double bluff which I didn’t think so

If I were to have done that test I would have split my answers between Martine being my number one suspect , and then some answers thrown on Rik & Marielyn

Rik is the only man I suspect at all , I’ve crossed off the other four completely , I really don’t think Chris is the mole like most of the candidates do

Caroline is messing with my head as I completely ruled her out last week , but this week has made me have a rethink about her

Thank you for the videos , much appreciated πŸ™‚

I wasn’t that impressed with this week’s challenges :(. Week 2’s Suspect List is now closed! Our top three Mole suspects are, after Episode 2:

    #3: Margriet
    #2: Martine
    #1: Marlijn

So, we reckon Mar—– is The Mole! Last week’s top 3 were Ajouad and Margriet (joint 2nd) and Christ (1st) – so we’ve had quite a shift at the top.

I’ve not seen anyone’s individual Suspect List (I just look at the summary stats), so it appears that the competition is wide open right now!

It’s weird Ajouad seems to have the same suspicions as most of us. Although I think differently now.
I would split my answers between Chris, Rik and Carolina now, although I also feel like I saw another mole hint. (Well, when I see a mole hint, it actually isn’t a mole hint. I also thought I saw a hint about Evelijn being the mole…)

And by the way thank you very much for the guess along game!

so im pretty sure i saw a mole hint in that episode and it was a pretty big one , and its still consistent with my number one mole, good episode and very nice quiz twist at the end.my mole also links to the episode title as well as last weeks

if i were to have done the test i would have split between Rik, Martine & Marlijn , with one of them i would have put half the answers on

I don’t think we saw what was in all the urns- here’s what I was able to figure out…

    1-2 jokers
    2-Regular Exemption
    3-??
    4-1 joker
    5-2 jokers
    6-€250
    7-Bomb
    8-??
    9-€500
    10-??
    11-??
    12-5 jokers

2 of the unknowns are 3 jokers and the Black Exemption- I have to think there was some more money up there….maybe another 1 joker urn?

    Reply
  19. David

I think the urn game was done mainly to get some jokers in the game so the Black Exemption would be useful- I don’t know if I’d have used it immediately though, as there might be some counterthinking about using jokers…..

Martine is my top mole still , why would she suddenly think to tell people she had the black exemption, I mean it’s a big and clever game move , but to me it was sudden and I feel like the producers told her to do that , like it had already been planned

Rik is also in my mind, also his nickname was mouse , which is in the same animal family as a mole , could be a clue?

    Thank you for the upload

    1. David

I’d think blackmail- maybe she thought she could get a couple of jokers out of it by threatening to use it…or not use it.

  21. Clicky

I don’t think it was unusual for someone to lie about having a black exemption, I do, however, think it was out of character for her in particular to make such a claim. I agree it seems like something production told her to do – Martine just doesn’t seem like the person to think of that all on her own.

Also, I don’t know if anyone has brought this up – but in the mission with the Golf Carts, is it possible there are in fact only 8 set of initials (the Mole’s initials being replaced with MOL) and it will be revealed as a clue at the end.

Another thing about martine that I’ve noticed is whenever art tells them they have made no money in the assignment she can’t help but smile and when they win money she is not overly happy , I could have a serious case of tunnel vision here haha πŸ™‚

Bit of fridge logic here – if everyone was concerned she had the black exemption. Why did absolutely no one ask to see it? They took her word blindly?

    Sounds fishy

    Reply
  24. Michael

Forgive me for sounding ridiculous, but unless it’s a choice between money or the item, neither the exemptions nor jokers are really the sort of tools that Moles should be using, as they only shine a spotlight on the person using them when it’s public. It tends to be a great way to root out fake Moles.

Here is my educated guess at this week’s tasks if you want to play along at home.

          – Two of them will guide the rest of the team round a temple and are given four facts to impart to the team who will be tested in a quiz at the end. But along the way there are four donation boxes, each with a joker inside. Whilst acting as guides (basically: making rubbish up) they must work together to distract the team and grab the jokers without being caught. At the quiz the team are asked questions, and for each correct answer they can take €300 for the pot OR they can remove one of the stolen jokers from the game.

          – There are 14 plots of marked out in the sand and the money is hidden in one of them – the other thirteen are empty. One by one they pick two plots at random. Each contestant is then asked two questions based on the previous test. Once everyone has answered, Art reveals which seven plots are to be dug up (and they have five minutes to do so), one for each contestant. If the contestant who selected the plot with the money in gave two truthful answers then they will find the money. If they lied, they will not. The other six dug up plots will of course be empty.

          – I suspect I’m missing a nuance in this one – on a lake there are floating platforms with Dutch cities on which when looked at from above is a fairly accurate map of The Netherlands. Two teams of three will take and deliver packages from these places by speedboat, the seventh member will co-ordinate it all from a central desk with a walkie-talkie. The packages all have similar looking reference numbers on them so it’s important to pick up the right ones.

          Reply
          1. Michael

In the first game, they could take money or jokers from each box. The group were quizzed on the facts the guides were given – each question was worth 300 euros for the pot or removing one of the jokers that the guides obtained.

          2. Michael

In the second game, everyone picked two numbers of 14. They were then asked what they answered to two questions – one from the test and what they answered to Wie is de Mol last time. Every truthful answer got a square that they could dig. If the person with the winning square told the truth enough to get that square, they won the money.

          3. Brig Bother Post author

Yeah, I saw the money in the boxes and then wondered why you’d have to be surreptitious if you took it.

          4. Michael

If the guides were caught, the game would end and everything they got would be lost.

In the third game, four packages had to be delivered to the correct place (Gelddrop, literally ‘money drop’), each one being worth 500 Euros.

When she was asked the question ‘ what box did the mole pick ‘ in the black exemption challenge , it flashbacks to what she answered , and she answered box 11 , now if you worked out what was in each box in that challenge, box 11 had the black exemption which is what she picked , so why would Margaret answer that in her test if she wasn’t the mole …… Unless the producers are messing with us
