Again, AGAIN, for the forty-first time in fact it’s time for German überstar Stefan Raab to defend his money from people who would try and claim it, and tonight there’s a whopping €1.5m in the jackpot. And once again we’ll be providing an English language commentary which will run about ten seconds behind your internet stream of choice, and about thirty seconds behind the actual broadcast.

We know.

Still it’s normally quite good fun, and tonight’s musical guests include Hurts, Gentleman and ZAZ.

Tonight should be extra exciting, because Fifty 50 Show’s Lewis Murphy has gone through ALL the old episodes and taken notes so at least one of us this evening should sound more knowledgeable than normal.

Once again you are encouraged to join in the fun by tweeting with the hashtag #bbsdr or leaving comments on the Youtube stream, either of which will get picked up by us in the studio (we’re not in a studio) and we’ll read out the best things. The show starts at 7:15pm UK time, although the first 45 minutes is picking a contestant, the games start proper around 8pm. Recently it’s tended to finish around midnight, but it’s an open ended live show so it could finish later than that.

This is the stream we will probably be using to commentate on.

Here’s our live stream link! [Part 2] – open in a new stream to listen.

We’re limited to broadcasting in four hour bursts, so around 10pm we will need close down our first stream and start a fresh one. This will happen during an ad break or musical interlude, and we will update on here and on Twitter with the new addresses as soon as we can.

If you’re new to Schlag den Raab then welcome! I’ve included a basic FAQ under the cut.

Things That Are On feat. Fifty 50 26

TERNIGHT!

  • Who Wants to be a Millionaire: The People Play (ITV, 9pm) – Once again real people with real sob stories will get to sit in the chair for the chance to walk away at £20,000. But this time there’s an iOS app! Although I think you’ll be able to play along on the website as well. Tonight’s one is live, but they seem to be recording another one for future use. We’re still waiting for the JLS break-up special.
  • And that’s on at the same time as The Apprentice! (BBC1, 9pm) What hilarious things will the stupid contestants come out with tonight? Episode two is on tomorrow, and further episodes go out on Wednesdays.
  • First series Fun House and Knightmare on Challenge on Friday from 10pm. Kids telly in prime time, it’ll be interesting to see how that does.
  • This Saturday it’s the last Schlag den Raab for a few months. We’ll be providing a live commentary again. This time there’s €1.5m in the pot and Hurts are performing live. So.

In other news, ITV are recording a pilot of Take One For The Team on Friday 24th May. Can’t go I have an engagement, but if you go do let us know what you think. Be warned, it’s at Pinewood.

And look! It’s the new Fifty 50 Show this week featuring David Bodycombe and new panellist Jack Waley-Cohen of our good friends at QuizQuizQuiz.com. Check it out.

Pro Sieben or dodgy internet streaming

Get your Wodka Gorbechow ready, this episode, Bother’s Bar ONCE AGAIN brings you Only Connect‘s David J Bodycombe, Daniel Peake and Lewis Murphy from Fifty 50 and myself guiding you through the evening’s Schlag den Raab – LIVE! Come back here at 7ish for a link to our live stream. We’re hoping to go on through until the close of play which could be any time between 11pm (if it’s a whitewash) and 2am (if it goes to the wire). Even if you can’t join us for the entirety of it, just tune in when you want!

And we want you to get involved! Your best way is either opening up the stream in a new window and making YouTube comments or tweeting with the hashtag #bbsdr. We’ll read out the most worthwhile ones. And some of the not-so-worthwhile ones. And we’ll be doing it LIVE.

This is the stream we are using to commentate. If you have VLC and Firefox, you can get a higher quality stream by clicking on the ProSieben VLC button. The VLC stream is around 10 seconds ahead of the non VLC stream. Our commentary will be based on that one – If you watch the non VLC stream it should work out about right for synching!

Here is our commentary! This is Part TWO, we will be there until the end.

The jackpot was won last episode so it resets to a still ginormous €500,000! The musical guests this evening ate XEVIAS, Max Raabe & the Palast Orchestra AND Ellie Goulding!

If you’re new to Schlag den Raab then welcome! I’ve included a basic FAQ under the cut.

Sunday Supplement

It’s sort of the Board of Excitement but different.

  • We are just waiting for a translation of this week’s Wie is De Mol? series opener. Please direct discussion to the page, linked to up the top.
  • Face the Clock with Rory Bremner starts on Channel 4 tomorrow at 3:30pm. A show discussion post will go up in due course.
  • Only Connect fans rejoice, there’s a series five vs series 6 champions episode tomorrow (BBC4, 8:30pm) followed by an Eggheads vs People Who Are Good At Only Connect Called David Special the following week. Still nobody has gone for the ratings behemoth that would be the Eggheads vs the Chasers. Edit: One of the questions is mine. That’s right, look impressed. Although I’m not credited.
  • The Bother Series of Poker starts two weeks today. The trophies have been ordered, full details in due course. You can sign up to the Bother’s Bar Poker Club for free right now.
  • We’ve had loads of ballots for the Poll of 2012. Thanks to everyone who has voted. We want more! Lines close on Friday night.
  • Catchphrase films this week. We’re hoping to go on a return trip so look out for a review.
  • Finally it’s Schlag den Raab next Saturday and yes! We’ll be doing another LIVE commentary! Probably.

Whatsmore this episode we are doing a competition! You need to predict who will win and what time the confetti will go off according to my watch. If you’re correct with the winner and closest to the time you’ll win €35. If you’re closest and within five minutes, you’ll win €100! Congratulations to Caroline whose guess of the Contestant winning at 23:45 wins €35!

The next episode is January 12th. The jackpot is €500,000

For reference, here are the two commentary streams used throughout the night. In case you’d like a listen. Thanks very much to everyone who did listen in, we were about 50% up on last time:

Stefan Raab has won the last six episodes, so tonight there’s an eye watering €3.5m on the line for one lucky contestant which if it gets won will be, we believe, the biggest post-tax haul taken away from a gameshow worldwide. The musical guests tonight are Taylor Swift, Seeed and Deichkind. I know! Deichkind!
