'Ello 'ello 'ello, what's all this then? Well, we figured that with the rise of broadband and things like You Tube, it was about time there was a central place to find interesting gameshow related things on the internet. When I've worked out how, I'm going to try and put interesting stuff from my collection online for your perusal. Things like clips from an episode of A Prendre ou a Lassier, and games from recent years of Fort Boyard you probably won't have seen. If you've seen anything interesting on YouTube or so forth, leave a message and we'll see about linking to it. "Interesting" is defined at my discretion. If it increases our knowledge of a foreign version of a show we know (or indeed don't) - it's in. If it's a clip of a man hilariously falling down the stairs - I couldn't care less. Last updated: June 26th Deal or No Deal Argentinan - Trato Hecho: Unlucky! It's also hosted by the guy who used to host Fort Boyard in Argentina. POP FACT: The US Spanish language version of Let's Make a Deal is/was also called Trato Hecho. Includes hilarious dance at the end! Australia - If you're lucky, you may find people putting episodes up on torrent sites. Meanwhile, a clip that shows that it's definitely possible. On the other hand... France - A Prendre ou a Laisser - Clippage! More clippage! And more! And yet more! We're very fond of the French show, because it is actually quite amusing even if you don't understand the language (mainly through its use of music). We're particularly fond of the way they whip the boxes open and the accompanying drum effect. The man in black you may see the camera focus on in the audience is the show's independant auditor. On that third clip, it is likely the Banker hasn't made a final cash offer and asked if she wishes to swap the box. POP FACT: Host Arthur is (according to Wikipedia) the vice president of Endemol France and a popular radio presenter. Like Madonna and Prince, Arthur doesn't have a surname. Most recent, this is an amazing clip showing many things it's unlikely you'll see in a lot of places. Italy - Affari Tuoi - Not quite sure to be honest. In this version, the bank DOES know what's in the boxes. India - Deal Ya No Deal - This is interesting because India has tried both ways of doing it - originally hosted by Indian actor Madhavan, it employed the opening boxes method. I do not know if the losing contestants stay on until they play here. When he left and popular actress Mandira Bedi took over, the set and game changed to something much more its Dutch and Aussie counterparts (losing contestants get a chance to guess what's in their box for a cash prize, or at least they do until the winning contestant decides to deal). These six clips: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, represent the first version of the show - here winner of Indian Idol Anhijeet Sawant helps out the winning contestant after a performance of his latest song. Sadly full episodes of the more recent version appear to have been taken down. And now they've changed their set again! Now it looks more like the US version. US - Can be found floating around torrent sites occasionally. But in the meantime, here's Howie Mandel having "a quiet word" with The Banker. El Gran Juego de Oca Spain - Someone attempting a world record attempt in blowing up bubblegum. Not the most exciting of Oca clips in honesty given the rest of the mad stuff they did, but you might find it interesting nonetheless. It's on Rapidshare so it may involve a bit of effort. Here are the titles, which don't appear until partway through an episode (for obvious reasons). Here's El Fliqui, the barber. Meanwhile, a woman gets her feet licked by a goat, and someone lands on the Death Space. A quick montage of a few games, including one dangerous firey one. Italy - Il Grande Gioco Dell'Oca - A montage of one of the female hosts. We have lots of very fond memories of the Italian show which we used to watch on Friday nights on Rai Due, back when you could get foreign channels on cable and I was about 12. Finders Keepers US - Entire episode. Legends of the Hidden Temple US - From the people who bought you Funhouse, it's a show that's a bit like Funhouse. Lingo US - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 - This is from the 1987 version rather than the Game Show Network version. I gather they had trouble paying out on a lot of the prizes, which is a shame because the bonus game is great. This version of Lingo aired on Britain's Wire TV cable channel in the early nineties, and I may have read somewhere that Endemol bought the rights to air a new UK version (we already had a version in the eighties) sometime last year. Pasapalabala Spain - Big money win. Russian Roulette US - The series one bonus round. This is what the UK show SHOULD have been like. And the series two one. Hong Kong (?) - An ENTIRE EPISODE of the show in Cantonese. We're trying to work out their bonus game, we reckon it involves them only having to brave the drop if they get the question wrong. Sale of the Century/Temptation Australia - Big winner. Wheel of Fortune Australia - Short clip of an episode with ex-Price is Right host Larry Emdur. Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Germany - Hilarious computer crash. Looks like they use a slightly different computer package over there. India, Kaun Banega Crorepati - Compilation of losers. We're always intrigued by the mixture of Indian and English spoken on Indian game shows. Spain - Opening sequence - the same as ours these days really. Eight minute segment. US - Oh dear. |
