Making all the right noises

I’ll give them this: for a show which seemed like the most pointless revival in the world, GamesMaster In Association With Oculus Rift 2 continues to impress with its decisions – location and hosts are all great choices, and overnight it’s been suggested that Sir Trev is going to be the GM and really that’s a very difficult decision to argue with.

Just… please don’t expect us to take e-sports seriously.

In other news, rather brilliantly over the weekend we were alerted to THREE episodes of The Perfect Crime uploaded to Youtube, the Dutch version of Swap Team/Valvet whatever. It’s roughly the same format as the Swedish one – a team of three takes on the tower, once they reach the safe it’s everyone for themselves, a couple of elimination games then the eventual winner taking on the maze against the clock. Fun stuff, deserved more.

I did have a chuckle at one of the eps when the security code they needed to open the vault was literally “SECURITYCODE”….

Ha ha, I literally watched that one last night. The only thing I haven’t worked out is that end bit, presumably they have to do the wiring thing, they can’t guess the code until all the letters have come out?

I do think one minute for a clean Maze win is a bit harsh. I can see it being an issue if you’re advertising a million guilders on offer and the winner only walking away with ten thousand. I quite like the idea of a player taking two cases through if they don’t mind the encumbrance.

It looks like they were shooting for between 2:00 and 2:30 actually in the vault getting money (one team had less than that because they lost 30 seconds of the 4:00 overall vault time due to a lock in-type situation)- and it sorta makes sense that all the letter “bolts” have to be unlocked before they can put the code in (though in other versions they didn’t have to).

One thing that was interesting is they showed how the money was actually split in the various sections of the briefcases- others just had the total.

Yes I did think that was fun. I didn’t spot if they blew up in highest to lowest or at random, which I might keep an eye on watching tonight.

Edit: It probably ought to be random, otherwise you’d just split it evenly wouldn’t you?

I think 2-2.5mins is probably the ideal, watching four minutes of pretty easy anagramming in the Swedish one was a bit much. You want it to be long enough to feel like a decent payoff for the effort, but not so long it’s boring!

Ah OK it’s double punishment which I’m not sure I like – five minutes in the safe with thirty seconds knocked off for each failed mission. Not sure I like that. Clock penalty or wires penalty but not both.
