Yes we know it could have basically just been a FAST channel, but nobody actually watches those, so Channel 28 on Freeview today taking over ITV Be is ITV Quiz, now it can be daytime (and some night time) all the time with shows like The Chase, Tipping Point, Lingo, Celeb Catchphrase etc. whenever you want them. Edit: Except it hasn’t got The Chase in its initial line-up, or indeed Celeb Catchphrase – thanks to several people alerting me to that. It does have Wheel of Fortune and Millionaire and Tenable though.
Fascinated to see what sort of figures they pull, although as an archive channel it’s basically free money for them. Still, it would be nice if they put something a bit different and interesting on occasionally.
Having now seen (on YouTube) the promo trailer they broadcast this morning, it included clips from Pictionary and In With a Shout alongside the shows on the launch schedule, in case you wanted a teaser as to what’s coming down the pipe…
Looks like ITV Q are in first instance utilising acquired formats (e.g. DOND, Tenable, Tipping Point from Banijay, WOF and Millionaire from Sony) rather than ITV Studios-owned formats, which may explain the absence of Chase despite ITV using it on its other own channels and ITVX…
It’s mostly – and understandably – ITV’s big hitters just now. Apart from The Chase, the other notable omissions are Limitless Win and The 1% Club. Catchphrase as well I guess but that could also be down to not wanting another Mulhern show in the schedules.
I wonder if Pictionary and In With A Shout will be shown at some point or the clips are just there to make the channel look busy? People aren’t desperate to see them, as is the case with everything archive but current shows may need a rest sometime, although it could just be Riddiculous and Jeopardy coming in.
Just seen some numbers for the ITV Quiz launch day, before 3pm they were tiny, other than some opening Lingo (a smidge over 10k) several shows 3,000 or less (an ep of Wheel of Fortune goes as low as 1k), maxing out with an episode of Lingo at seven pulling in 53k. Challenge TV more competitive except between 3pm and 8pm (when The Chase comes on). However, I’ve also been furnished with last Monday’s ITV Be numbers and several shows were pulling a zero figure, and on a week to week overnight comparison ITV Quiz was more competitive during the day (albeit with numbers that look like rounding errors) and a bit better in the evening. So a triumph I guess?
Probably also worth pointing out that a lot of ITV Be’s programming will be pushed for streaming in a way ITV Quiz’s won’t be, so it’s probably not quite a like for like comparison.
Better numbers during the day yesterday, I understand.
Millionaire did 100k against Soccer Aid last night, I’m told, an ITV Quiz record. So six figures isn’t out of the question.
Still too many double bills! A wasted opportunity so far, says I…though I’m happy to be proven wrong down the line!
