What’s in the Package? Schlag den Brig, 8pm Saturday

By | January 23, 2014

So this came through the post:

sdbrigpack

This Saturday I’ll be taking on Daniel Peake over a series of fifteen mystery mental and skill based games hosted and devised by Crystal Maze game designer and until recently Only Connect question editor David J Bodycombe. Fifty 50‘s Lewis Murphy will be acting as referee and commentator. It’s based on popular German event television show Schlag den Raab, and we’ll be broadcasting the whole thing LIVE on Youtube from 8pm, going on until whenever, likely about midnight.

If you were to tell me that we would be playing possibly increasingly harrowing mystery games from sealed packages whilst under the instructions of a slightly camp man shouting instructions over a webcam on the internet you’d have a) a fucking great plot for a thriller and/or b) a potential Endemol format in the making.

I will be breaking a twenty year rule of not explicitly appearing on camera for this. You are advised to watch live in case Youtube issues mean having to take the whole thing down afterwards.

This is either going to be amazing, hilarious and quite possibly both. Join us then!

    Brig, go gentle, ok?

Verry intrigued here, irritatingly the first bit I’m off at my own birthday party so I might be able to catch it halfway through…I hope.

I technically did! It was on Monday and I was supposed to go out last Saturday but decided to sleep in for some reason.

I’m working all night so sadly have to miss it but really hoping it’ll be available to watch later if you’re streaming it on Youtube.

I would have giggled if the show had had to be postponed because the Royal Mail had delayed the delivery of the props package. I would very much not have giggled if the show had had to be reconsidered because the Royal Mail had not delivered the props package at all.

This is really exciting stuff; looking forward to it, only 32 hours to go. Certainly a good part of the excitement is knowing and liking both contestants, but I have hopes for the games that are as high as you would, er, hope.

As I recall, it is traditional for takeaway food to be delivered to the commentators part-way through a SdR commentary. Will there be a “stuffing as many marshmallows into your mouth as you can” game to provide rudimentary nutrition in lieu of this, I wonder? Only *counts on fingers and toes* hours until we find out.

As someone who is actually working 9-5 tomorrow and has been doing so and more all week AND has had a cold AND hasn’t been sleeping AND has spent about 15 hours sorting out a poll, there might well be an energy drink element.

That depends on whether there’s someone going to be doing a feed commentating on our feed. Preferably in German.

If I was better with this technical stuff, I’d try to do that, but I don’t think I’m capable of that… (But James is also German or at least good in German, isn’t he? Maybe he knows how to do that?)

I have an A in German dated 2007! If I’m back in time you get to hear me ruin all the languages you want.
