Eamonn Holmes Spell Interactive DVD
Everyone thinks they can spell, but just how good are you when it comes down to a head to head battle against your friends and family? Eamonn Holmes asks that very question by challenging players to spell over 2000 words, complete with definitions and word facts in this fun, interactive DVD game. Hang on a minute! "Fun"? How does it work? Play in one player (in which case you get a seemingly endless selection of words - we stopped at 23), Eamonn says a word to you, you pick one of the four multiple choice answers, get told if you're correct or not. Or! You can play in two teams. In which case on your go you get a choice of one point or two point questions. For one point, you can pick the correct spelling from the multiple choices offered. For two points you have to spell it out loud. The first team to twenty points wins. You get to choosoe the difficulty of your game before you start, and you can also ask for a definition at any point. Is it good? We quite enjoyed Hard Spell. This, however, is the dullest thing we've ever played. And we've played Blockbusters. It's just so dry. Eamonn has recorded all the words and linking voiceovers (of which there appear to be about four different ones. The one you'll be hearing most often is "good spelling!" which is now a catchphrase amongst the backroom staff). It might be quite useful as a teaching tool (although I suspect the kids won't be too thrilled at the prospect of Eamonn Holmes) but as a piece of entertainment you really should be looking elsewhere. Hard Spell might have made spelling compelling, this (which isn't even an official tie-in) just makes it very boring indeed. |
