What could a pedenda be?

By | April 8, 2021

We were catching up with The Great British Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer yesterday night featuring Anneka Rice, and it opened with a Treasure Hunt take-off. In December 2022, Treasure Hunt, one of Channel 4’s most iconic shows, will be FORTY years old. Surely this calls for a one-off special? Richard Osman said he’d have loved to have done an 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Treasure Hunt episode – he might not be a producer anymore but this seems like a pretty fun idea to run with.

The Whole 19 Yanks

By | April 4, 2021

Here’s a fun thing that’s just been uploaded on Wink Martindale’s Youtube Channel – the US pilot for The Whole 19 Yards with Chris Hardwick.

We watched the Spanish version Les Ultimos 20 Metros which we *think* was the first version to air years and years ago (here’s an episode with the same challenges in it) which is very similar, although has a sort of bank building quiz round in between rounds. The episode I saw originally had different challenges but felt a bit dull. This US one feels slicker, and runs about ten minutes quicker, but still lacks the colour and creativity of the UK one – which let’s not forget actually did OK, but was expensive for the numbers it was bringing in.

Show Discussion: Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow

Saturdays, 8:30pm,
ITV1

I completely forgot series two this was starting this week, so what I’m doing is bumping up the series one show discussion and seeing as it’s using mainly the same shows (and Name That Tune), you can continue discussion here.

Original post May 29th 2020

Well it’s finally here, Alan Carr’s epic supersized versions of classic formats – starting with Play Your Cards Right with The Price is Right, Bullseye, Take Your Pick and Strike it Lucky to come, offering epic supersized prizes in epic supersized endgames which by the sounds of it aren’t greatly bigger then they were during the 90s. Still though.

The first one is a celebrity Play Your Cards Right where four couples will battle it out to win £30,000 in cash (woah). Now is it me, or does it look like there are more than five cards in the row on that promo picture? Apparently the second season of the relaunched Card Sharks in the US is going with single game, five questions, seven cards (as opposed to ten cards last year which was rubbish as every game went to sudden death). This was recorded last year, so maybe it’s a tweak. Or maybe we’re reading too much into a clipped photo, who knows?

I can’t say Epic Take Your Pick and Epic Bullseye are that appealing, although intrigued to see how Strike It Lucky fares – a show which is famously not all that as a format but as something for Michael Barrymore to bounce off was very successful. Will an hour of it with Alan Carr have the same appeal? Will the audience response to the catchphrase still be unintelligible? I look forward to finding out.

It’s Easter Weekend!

By | April 1, 2021

Do you know how hard it is to keep finding relevant egg-based things for this every year? Do you ever think about that? No I don’t think you do. One of these days I’ll just link to a random episode of Eggheads and be done with it.

So here’s an episode of CBBC’s Why Did The Chicken? Happy Easter!

The Void

By | March 29, 2021

Voids are normally completely empty spaces, but good luck to ITV in redefining the English language as this void is a 520,000 litre pool of water in “one of the biggest bespoke water tanks ever constructed for a gameshow”. Look here’s the press release. Ashley Banjo (who has completely blocked hosting Can’t Touch This out of his mind apparently, and who can blame him) and Fleur East will be hosting.

This “physical gameshow with a difference” (difference to be determined) sounds a bit like The Cube meets Ninja Warrior over a water tank. And this sounds like Very Much The Sort Of Thing We Like!

However we must point out that we’ve got our “null and Void” and “A Void” gags ready prepared if it doesn’t land. FEAR ME, Gameface.

Incidentally apols for the Bar being down for most of the day (especially if you wanted to talk about the incredible episode of Belgian Mole that went out last night), it was the hosting end.
