Show Discussion: 1001 Things You Should Know

By | November 12, 2012

Weekdaily, 3:30pm,
Channel 4

Sandi Toksvig hosts a new afternoon quiz where celebrities ask questions of people on things you probably really ought to know. Hey, that sounds a bit like the Open Door round in De Slimste, but we digress. Answering the easy questions lets you answer harder questions for money.

That’s all we know. Apparently foreign versions have a playalong app, although I don’t know if we’re getting one.

Struggling. Still, don’t forget Word Up! is still ongoing, as of Sunday 2pm the prize is £45. You can have one guess after every letter reveal, we’ve had loads of entries but nobody has cracked it yet. Could it go today?

  • I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – COME ON CONLEY. (Sunday night 9pm and then nightly variously, ITV1)
  • 1001 Things You Should Know – New Sandi Toksvig quiz comes to Channel 4 afternoons. I’m not sure what they’re going to do when they get through all 1001 things, mind. A show discussion post will appear tomorrow. (Weekdays, Channel 4, 3:30pm) – Countdown is pushed back to 2:40pm.
  • Only Connect – Children in Need special, featuring The Goldfingers (Charlie Higson, Daisy Goodwin, Matthew Parris) take on The Fowls (Clarke Carlisle, Rosie Boycott and Richard Osman). (Monday, BBC4, 8:30pm)
  • Fifty 50 Show – this week featuring the first “proper” game of 21 Questions Wrong. The game is nicked off the Italians, the music is nicked off the French, the money is nicked from the English. I can exclusively reveal it to be epic. (Monday)
  • Children in Need – will almost certainly feature Have I Got A QI of Sport’s Buzzcocks All Over For You. (Friday, BBC1, from 7:30. Do give generously.)
  • Schlag den Raab – His current run began with a 66-0 drubbing and he’s gone five wins on the trot. On Saturday a contestant will try and beat Stefan Raab for a jackpot of €3m. And hopefully, hopefully, we will be providing a live alternative English commentary for you to listen to. Hopefully. (Saturday, Pro 7 and internet, 7:15pm UK time).

So THAT is where Gary Monaghan has got to.

One of the brains behind Bother’s Bar favourites Banzai! and Hercules has devised a new show for E4 beginning in January.

In My Little Princess, potential suitors will battle it out in comedy physical action games in a medieval setting in an attempt to win the heart of daughters of overprotective fathers.

The final two Princes must duel in a power ballad sing-off.

Might be awful. But knowing who is behind it, it might be awful with a certain glint in its eye. And prog rock in its headphones.

In other news, I’m informed the new series of Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge begins on CITV on the 8th December, and Saturdays and Sundays thereafter.

BOTHER’S BAR BACKS BRIAN

It’s a fairly good I’m a Celeb line-up this year. We are, of course, backing the entertainer and host of 2003 non-hit Judgement Day and surely-about-time-he-fronted-a-massive-quiz-such-as-Avanti-Un-Altro-just-for-example Brian Conley (although we reserve the right to change allegiance to Linda Robson if it doesn’t go well).

Inevitably a few extras will be parachuted in along the way, but the current starting line-up is:

  • Ashley Roberts – Pussycat Doll who isn’t Nicole Scherzinger.
  • Brian Conley – TV legend.
  • Charlie Brooks – Janine Butcher off of Eastenders.
  • Colin Baker – Dr Who.
  • David Haye – Boxer.
  • Eric Bristow – Retired sportsperson.
  • Helen Flanagan – Rosie Webster in Coronation Street.
  • Hugo TaylorMade in Chelsea.
  • Linda RobsonJobs for the Girls participant.
  • Nadine Dorries – Likely to get lots of Bushtucker Trials.

Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock was also rumoured to be going in – perhaps at a later date? It’s time to smell what The Rock is cooking! Kangaroo testicles, on previous form.

Not much happening that I know of, and not much until 1001 Things You Should Know on Monday. What are we missing?

Word Up! is still going. I get the feeling it might be over in the next few days, so if you haven’t had a guess yet then get in before then. The pot is now £57.

In other news, we’re hoping to “do” some sort of live Schlag den Raab English alternative commentary thing for SdR next Saturday. The problem is we don’t have a clue how to go about it. Does anyone have any advice? Google Hangout? Other? This will be an audio only thing to listen to whilst you watch your dodgy streaming.

TV Cream have done an amusing play along card for Bob’s Full House currently showing on Saturday nights.

I still don’t think the Golden Card is all that as an endgame, though.

In other news, the new Fifty 50 Show is out! And yes! Once again I am a guest (cheap and available). This week we have a chat about all sorts of things, mainly the new shows beginning on Channel 4 afternoons soon, and the career of Phil Spencer of upcoming The ConDom fame, so do check it out.
