Pinoy Noir

By | March 7, 2011

Right then, so we’re all well aware that ITV have an upcoming show called Sing If You Can recording soon where contestants sing whilst being distracted in hilarious and probably painful ways. It’s being reformatted slightly over here, all celebs are playing for charity and it’s likely to be a bit more extreme (one of the losers is going to get dunked into a pool from a great height). In the original, the singers are playing for members of the audience. Getting the tone right is going to be absolutely crucial, which is funny when you think about it.

Anyway you don’t need me to tell you about it, here’s the Pinoy version which is mostly in English anyway. As you will see it’s charmingly Phillippean, but I found myself fast forwarding through the actual challenges once it became obvious that there wasn’t much entertainment coming. This is the opening, the game doesn’t begin properly until part two.

Board of Excitement 6th – 12th March 2011

Really not a lot on, almost considered not bothering:

  • 24 Hour Panel Peoplealthough it’s finished now.
  • The Amazing Race – Sunday night, CBS
  • Survivor – Wednesday night, CBS
  • A League of Their Own – This won’t get a billing every week but having not bothered to watch it before (seeing as it combines Sky One, sport and James Corden), actually deigned to try it and discovered it’s actually quite amiable indeed and therefore worth a try if you want a comedy panel game to watch with some proper challenge elements on a Friday evening. So fair enough, really. (9:30pm, Friday, Sky1 (+HD))
  • Bother Series of Poker Game 5 – All the details up now. So far I’ve yet to not make the money, can ANYONE end this amazing run?

Show discussion: 24 Hour Panel People

By | March 5, 2011

OK then, today’s the day that David Walliams off of Little BritainGamesworld et al does 24 different panel shows (they say panel, but The Generation Game and Give Us a Clue and even Room 101 is probably pushing it a bit) in 24 hours for Comic Relief.

You can watch the live stream (watchable outside the UK, apparently) and donate by clicking on the picture (or, I believe, on the red button), it begins at noon Saturday UK time:

I will probably be dipping in and out of it all day, there is a schedule of sorts of what and who will be involved although they don’t seem to be running to a clock. We wish them all best of luck.

If you don’t catch any of the live stream, BBC3 will have 5×30 shows on it in the run up to Red Nose Day on March 18th, and there will be highlights on the night as well.

Is anyone going to see the High Stakes pilot next week?

By | March 3, 2011

It’s filming up in Manchester on Thursday.

I’m blessed with a job with a very generous leave allowance which I can take at the drop of a hat however I’d rather not use it all up by the end of March. Similarly a train ticket to London is no problem, train tickets + hotels start to add up.

So if you don’t want me at your pilot, go and film it in Manchester. However, is anyone planning on going and would they like to report on it? I notice they’ve got rid of all traces of top one-time gambling-addict and underclass baiter Jeremy Kyle, and that originally it was going to be an ITV/NBC co-production but the NBC bit has been delisted. They’ve also made it sound exactly like Secret Fortune, although I suspect it will be actually different. I’ve already decided that it looks like it’s trying a bit too hard.

A man walks into a bar…

… and asks the following:

Do you think we miss out by not having a proper, non “old gold”, dedicated gameshow channel in the UK? If we did have one, could it offer more than just repeats?

Gameshows are big news on the main channels but a dedicated channel might allow for different sensibilities and opportunities for viewers and producers alike…

You guys are such big gameshow fans. I thought you might have an interesting opinion on this.

How you choose to respond is up to you.
