I’ve just discovered Discovery Channel UK are showing One Man Army on Fridays at 9pm. Do have a look, it’s a load of fun.
Show Discussion: The Million Pound Drop – LIVE! December 2011/January 2012
December 2011:
10:00-11:30pm Monday to Thursday,
9pm-10:30pm Friday
January 2012:
9pm Friday, 9:30pm Saturday
Davina’s back for another week of drop drama. I have no idea if any celebrities are playing or when.
Last series some massive amounts were given away (£300,000 being won by Jack Whitehall and his dad). Last Christmas the losers got to pick drops to go away with a prize – no idea if we’ll be seeing that this week.
It feels a bit too early for Christmas specials. The “too much?” advert was quite amusing though.
Edit: Everywhere comics Mickey Flannigan tonight and Paddy McGuinness later the week, so @bbspy tells us.
Board of Excitement 4th-10th December 2011
Not much this week, basically:
- Only Connect – it’s the final! The Antiquarians take on The Analysts. What is going to happen? (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4)
- The Million Pound Drop – Live! Davina’s back for another week of drop drama. (10pm Monday to Thursday, 9pm Friday, C4)
Fantasy X Factor scoring will be later than usual tonight (sorry).
Wetten Dass
You may be interested to note it’s the last ever Wetten Dass…? with Thomas Gottschalk on German television (channel ZDF) this evening.
You may be able to watch it live (including the warm-up) here from 6:25pm.
Wetten Dass…? began 30 years ago in 1981 and is one of German television’s most regarded light entertainment shows, calling it a day after a competitor badly hurt themselves on live television in a stunt involving jumping over cars. A UK version, You Bet! ran for ten series in the late eighties and nineties. Here is a feature we wrote on ther show five years ago.
The Bank Job
Just a quickie, the The Bank Job game is now online, for your chance to go on the show in January.
This is quite a fun game but at the same time extraordinarily frustrating:
- Two of you in a vault with 25 safety deposit boxes. Inside each one is either an amount of cash, a ‘steal’ or nothing at all. The total cash equals £200,000.
- You both begin with 45 seconds on the clock. One of you is asked a multiple choice question. A right answer stops the clock and allows you to pick a box. A wrong answer means you get another question.
- The amount of money in the box is added to your case. You can then choose to either leave or play on. If you leave, you can’t accumulate any more cash, but i can’t be stolen either.
- Then your opponent gets to go.
- If you pick a “steal”, you automatically take the largest bundle of cash your opponent has.
- The winner is the person who escapes the vault with the most money. You can’t leave if your opponent has left and you’ve got less, and you lose if you run out of time.
To qualify for the show you have to win two games during an alloted tournament slot.
It’s fun, unless you keep getting relentlessly unlucky with the boxes (I hit three £0s in the space of three questions, the next game against TV’s Daniel Peake I hit two large amounts of cash only to have them immediately stolen away, NNGH). Also there’s something correct yet *not quite right* about not being able to steal from people who have left, it means it’s quite difficult to catch up sometimes because the Steals become £0s effectively. Maybe give them a chance to pick again?
Pointless alert
SRO doing tickets for next year’s Pointless.
I’ve seen a lot of shows live, most are very little fun to be in the audience for. Pointless is, and comes highly recommended.
Also a new round has been promised. I’ve already applied.
In other news, CJ is leaving Eggheads.
