Love means nothing

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve still got space for panellists for this Saturday’s upcoming Game Night, so do shout if you’re interested, especially if you’ve not been a panellist before – we’re always interested in new blood.

Traditionally we share a video on this day. Sometimes it’s a dating show, sometimes it’s a spin. Today we have the credits for little-remembered BBC afternoon tennis-based general knowledge quiz Matchpoint from 1990.

Some things from the last comment thread in case you missed it:

  • Small Fortune is heading to NBC, because of course it is.
  • Soon we have Possessed’s The Switch to look forward to, the gameshow of the Nintendo console, probably. In it Sanjeev Bhaskar (which actually feels like an unusual and decent choice) asks questions on the buzzers for money, and at the end of the each round the contestants face a number of hard multiple-choice questions, getting one wrong means potentially getting Switched out of the game if nobody else gets one wrong to take your place. Promises even more questions than even Alphabetical. Effectively sounds like two different games with neither having much of a bearing on the other, like the “bye-bye” rounds in Fluke. This is from Possessed’s new Manchester base Man Possessed (ho ho).

Game Night 14 is looking for panellists

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around.
Love is in the air, every sight and every sound.

But especially love is in the air this Saturday with the Valentines-and-a-bit Bother’s Bar Game Night, where we will be working through a relationship through the medium of Jackbox, starting with dating (Monster Seeking Monster) all the way through to wanting to kill each other (Trivia Murder Party), culminating with an arbitrary final where we will find out who is the most compatible.

That’s right, it’s “concept”. And if you want to be part of that “concept” then please hit me up, on here or @ me on Twitter. Of course, the audience will be playing along too in the hope of homewrecking.

It’s all going to be good clean(ish) fun, so apply now!

Schlag den Star Watchalong 9/2/19

By | February 9, 2019

Saturday, 7:15pm (UK)/8:15pm (Germany)
ProSieben or your naughty alternative of choice.

Join us for another exciting edition of Schlag den Star where once again two celebs will be battling it out over 15 mystery events for €100,000.

If you’ve got a microphone you’ll be welcome to join us and hangout in the Hangout – link will appear here soon after the show starts.

This episode, musician Sasha takes on TV chef Tim Mälzer over 15 events for Elton’s €100,000 briefcase. Announced musical acts include THE Herbert Grönemeyer and also ZAZ and Sigrid!

The link to the commentary stream will be live here from 7:15 until end of broadcast.

This stream is commentary only. You will need to have a naughty stream running at the same time for the visuals. We are likely to be about 15-20 seconds behind the visual stream (and about a full minute behind if you’re watching an actual satellite feed), sorry.

The Opera VPN has apparently stopped being useful for SdS. Bother’s Bar recommends shelling out for a proper VPN service. Bother’s Bar uses Tunnelbear, other VPN services are available. Matt Clemson recommends Windscribe as a free alternative. We cannot take responsibility for anything you do to your system, so be careful and use some common sense.

To watch it would be useful to sign up for ProSieben’s catch-up service – it’s pretty simple to work out, don’t click the box if you don’t want e-mail messages. You will need to put in a proper e-mail because it will send you a confirmation.

If anyone knows of any relatively safe livestreams, do feel free to share.

It’s Run For Money, but in cars. And online.

Apropos of not very much, both David B and my sister alerted me to these things at roughly the same time, Youtube channel Fail Race regularly plays a game called Survive the Hunt, more recently in Forza Horizon, but this video is from Grand Theft Auto 5. The object in this one is to find checkpoints across the map whilst being hunted down by a group of Hunters who can communicate with each other. The guy has to change cars after every checkpoint (the skill is knowing when to try and look like an AI driver and when to just pelt it) and only has a vague idea where they are. I found myself getting quite into it.

It’s Schlag Saturday!

So join us from 7:15pm for our Schlag den Star freeforall watchalong. This episode’s contestants are German TV chef Tim Mälzer and musician Sasha, not of Encore Un Fois fame as I originally thought (that was Sash!) (and not this one either.) Announced musical acts include THE Herbert Grönemeyer and also ZAZ and Sigrid!

So if Song for Europe on Friday isn’t enough Europe for you, grab a mic and come join us for five hours on Saturday night.
