schlagdenraabSaturday, 7:15pm UK / 8:15pm Europe
ProSieben or naughty internet streaming

#bbsdr

There are only three (or possibly four) of these left EVER before the end of the year and Raab takes his retirement. Only 45 weird and wonderful challenges to go before your Saturdays become a lot less German. Max. Tonight €500,000 on the line for whoever can beat Raab. This week’s musical guests are Sido feat. Andreas Bourani and Joss Stone! I know! THE Sido feat. Andreas Bourani!

And again Bother’s Bar will be providing a live English commentary service throughout the evening, and during the boring bits there will probably be quizzes by TV legends David Bodycombe and Daniel Peake.

We’re likely to be around for five or six hours so do listen in and tweet us. YOU’LL MISS IT WHEN IT’S GONE.

Our commentary stream! This stream is commentary only. You will need to have a naughty stream running at the same time for the visuals. We are likely to be about 15-20 seconds behind the visual stream (and about a full minute behind if you’re watching an actual satellite feed), sorry.

This is the stream we will be watching.

Follow us on Twitter for immediate news if something goes wrong. Or because we’re fun guys!!!! @bothersbar@danielpeake@davidjbodycombe.

Tschüß!

Show Discussion: Hunted

Erm we couldn't find a title card on Google Images at the time of writing, so we've nicked this photo from the RTS of a CCTV camera used as sort of visual synecdoche.

Thursdays, 9pm,
Channel 4

We should be all over this as The Sort Of Thing We Like but really something about it is rubbing me up the wrong way before it’s even aired and I can’t put my finger on what it is.

Nevertheless Hunted asks 14 people to go on the run for 28 days and avoid capture by trackers to make some sort of point about the surveillance state.

It’s edgier and uniquely Channel 4 Wanted, basically, except already filmed as opposed to live and in six weekly installments and made as a documentary than a game show. “Real life thriller” they’re calling it. We’ll see.

Schlag den Raab this Saturday

Don’t forget to join us LIVE for commentary on German extravaganza Schlag den Raab this Saturday – the third to last one EVER.

This week’s musical guests are Sido feat. Andreas Bourani and Joss Stone! I know! THE Sido feat. Andreas Bourani! And there’s €500,000 in the jackpot.

That’s from 7:15pm UK time. Details on how to listen Saturday.

Off the Grid

By | September 8, 2015

You’ve probably noticed that Hunted begins on Channel 4 on Thursday and we’ll have a show discussion post set up for it in due course. We’re finding it quite difficult to get overly excited about, mainly because C4 have not done a great job is telling you what it actually is – the adverts made it look like a drama, but actually it’s a reality show, but it’s not entertainment like Wanted it seems more of a documentary than a competition. In theory it’s Very Much The Sort Of Thing We Like.

History in the US did something a little bit similar a few years ago albeit with a bit more emphasis on entertainment: Off the Grid – Million Dollar Manhunt. And you can watch it on Youtube look:

Show Discussion: Decimate Series 2

BBC1

The second series of this (and so soon after the first one which had been lying on a shelf for ages) despite being rather down on the slot average invites a bit of comment and speculation – they weren’t watching it before I’m not quite sure why they’d start watching it now (it looks like it looks the same and it’s certainly being hosted by Shane Richie again) – the only change we know that they’ve made is that rather than a team of three with a pre-existing relationship we have three people who don’t know each other working as a team. Whether this will make the process less dull and whether there’s anything else up their sleeve remains to be seen.

You can read our show discussion post on the first series here.

Can’t Touch This

By | September 6, 2015

An exciting looking press release has dropped suggesting that Zoe Ball and hilarious Release the Hounds wimp Ashley Banjo (also from street dance group Diversity) are the people fronting upcoming entertainment show Can’t Touch This.

I won’t repeat the release, you can read it here. The show essentially boils down to “touch the prize, win the prize.”

Things of note:

  • Sue Perkins is providing the commentary. The last time Sue Perkins commentated on a physical gameshow it was Don’t Scare the Hare.
  • It sounds very much like the sort of show that’s going in the old Saturday Total Wipeout slot, but it’s filmed in Belfast so likely will have slightly more stringent health and safety than Total Wipeout.
  • Stellify Media is staffed by decent, Bother’s Bar approved people, and whilst this doesn’t guarantee success or even a good show, it’s likely that some thought will have gone into it.
