After University Challenge. It’s a hardcore quiz one-two on BBC2. I wonder what Victoria Coren-Mitchell might open the show up with.

It’s political enthusiasts vs cat lovers tonight, and it’s an extra lengthy series – 27 episodes!

Edit: We’ve just remembered that (Celebrity) Pressure Pad starts today at 2:15 on BBC1. “This game requires someone who is good at general knowledge.”

Face à la bande

By | August 29, 2014

So this has piqued my interest this afternoon, there’s a show on France 2 right now called Face à la bande (Face the Band) where people send in their questions and a group of celebrities get four minutes to try and work out the logical answer and if they don’t the viewer gets €300 and there’s a hidden picture element and CHRIST ISN’T THIS BASICALLY CELEBRITY WHAT? WHERE? WHEN?/MILLION DOLLAR MIND GAME not doing especially well on early evening France 2?

Someone with a much better grasp of French will need to tell me how the questions stack up to the original Russian/US game. The credits suggest it’s an original creation (partly by the host himself in fact).

Not much happening

Last time I said I hadn’t updated for a few days as there wasn’t much interesting going on all sorts of stuff came out, so let’s try that again.

Edit: This came up on Twitter – Kalooki Pictures/Hat Trick are looking for pairs of contestants for a BBC quiz pilot, email jamese@hattrick.com. Tell ’em we sent you.

GEITF Saturday

So! It’s Mediaguardian’s Edinburgh International TV Festival time, and on Thursday there was a panel discussion called “Who Wants to be a Quiz Show Millionaire?” chaired by Paul Sinha at his comedic best (“successful relaunch of 15-1“) and discussion how to make a successful quiz show with Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment Justin Gorman, Daytime BBC Commissioner Pam Cavanagh, Endemol Chief Creative Officer David Flynn, Victory TV Managing Director Victoria Ashbourne and Remedy Chief Creative Officer Tom Blakeson.

It’s an interesting 50 minutes or so, have a watch.

Prized Apart

By | August 21, 2014

This came up about a week ago but seems like Exactly The Sort Of Thing We Like so is worth mentioning as there’s not much else on.

BBC1 has ordered a new show called Prized Apart where contestants take on adventure challenges with the worst performing flying back to the UK where friends and family do a quiz to keep them in the game.

Looking forward to seeing that.

Meanwhile ITV have commissioned Philip Schofield hypnotism thing You’re Back In The Room, where players attempt to perform simple tasks whilst hypnotised.
