The Ironing Throne

By | May 13, 2019

Next week is the grand finale of Game of Thrones, who will get to sit atop the Iron Throne?

Well back in the early nineties, before irony went mainstream, BSB and Sky asked who would sit on the IRONING throne with Christopher Biggins probably-wouldn’t-make-today fest Wife of the Week! And here’s the closing minutes.

Show Discussion: Taskmaster Series 8

By | May 7, 2019

Wednesdays, 9pm,
Dave and UKTV Play

It’s back! Five more comics put their wits and skills to the test in trying to complete ridiculous tasks under the watchful gaze of Greg Davies and Alex Horne.

Battling it out this series:

  • Lou Sanders
  • Iain Sterling
  • Sian Gibson
  • Paul Sinha
  • Joe Thomas

We don’t know if UKTV are going to be doing their usual thing of putting up episodes a week in advance (except the final) which is just annoying anyway. Still, though.

Edit: It sounds like Dave won’t be putting episodes up a week early this series, which I like because it doesn’t split the audience. Also there’s a new official website: taskmaster.tv.

FUNDAY MONDAY CHALLENGE

By | May 6, 2019

It’s BANK HOLIDAY FUNDAY!

Last night there was a drama that had the nation on tenterhooks, Tenable All-Stars. And what set the internet alight is that there’s now singing in the show’s main sting.

So your BANK HOLIDAY FUNDAY challenge is to put lyrics to your fave gameshow theme. The main rule is that you’re not allowed to just repeat the show’s title over and over like you probably would with Blind Date. No prizes, although perhaps there’s a Eurovision style show in the making. Have fun!

Show Discussion: Flinch

By | May 3, 2019

It’s on Netflix right now!

Seann Walsh, Lloyd Griffith and Desiree Birch challenge ten contestants to stay still under threat of painful punishment as things come whizzing close to their face. Whilst on a farm.

It’s Silent Library meets Saw by the looks of things. They’ve certainly gone big on the lo-fi theming of the show’s look, this interesting Broadcast article suggests 2000AD artist PJ Holden is involved.

I’m in an interesting place at the moment where I don’t actually have Netflix temporarily, so I’m greatly interested in your comments when you’ve watched it.

Crunch

By | April 30, 2019

Hello Gang, just a message/warning that during the Easter University term (now through to the middle of June) I’m working very long hours so I probably won’t have an awful lot of time to think about stuff to post (for smaller items/”fun” follow me on Twitter) – I’ll almost certainly be relaxing the “at least one post every three days” rule.

That’s not the same as there will be none! I’ll still be reading/posting comments and so on, but this is off-peak season – there’s not much worthwhile to cover at the moment anyway. In the next few weeks we have at least Taskmaster and Ben Justice videos (not this Friday as he’s been ill, unfortunately) to look forward to, as well as other stuff I’ve probably forgotten. We’ll try and get another Game Night in between the end of term and Fort Boyard season and maybe some Bother’s Bar Plays Badly.
