eltonsdsSaturday,
7:15pm UK/8:15pm Germany,

Pro Sieben or naughty internet streaming

Tweet us! #bbsds

That’s right star schlaggers we’re back for another evening of celebrity challenges and commentary fun and frolics.

Join me and a full house of commentators we watch two German celebrities battle it out over fifteen games both spectacular and mundane for Elton’s €100,000 case – LIVE.

During the boring bits we’ll have our own games and gossip, and we’ll try and remember to read out your tweets on the #bbsds hashtag. Find out EXACTLY what #wdwtgyt refers to, if you haven’t worked it out already.

But who are our two gladiators battling it out on Saturday night? Why it’s only bloody handball icon Stefan Kretzschmar, and he’s playing against popstar legend  Tim Bendzko. And there are musical guests as well.

Our commentary stream – live from 7:15 until close of play around midnight.
This stream is commentary only. You will need to have a naughty stream running at the same time for the visuals. We are likely to be about 15-20 seconds behind the visual stream (and about a full minute behind if you’re watching an actual satellite feed), sorry.

This is the stream we will hopefully be viewing. It was working at time of writing, I will update if we need to change it. It shouldn’t require a login or anything like that.

Prijzenslag

By | February 15, 2017

Whilst we’re on our unofficial old Dutch show week here at Bother’s Bar Youtube suggested something for me I hadn’t seen in about 25 years, Prijzenslag, a Dutch version of The Price is Right I used to watch on satellite on Dutch RTL when I was about ten. If I remember correctly this was followed by a show where people would ring up and control a bulldozer using their phone to push money into pits but the channel would usually become scrambled about half way through.

Obviously being about ten I found a show with the word “slag” written in big letters quite funny. Also Hans Kazan (magician stage name) had a particular way of presenting which meant I thought Dutch was quite a ‘hurdy-gurdy’ language for years. He’s brilliant (and still a going concern), but even now watching this I think he could be a young Paul Whitehouse character. Hurdy-Guilder, more like.

A couple of observations the 35-year-old me can now make: I do quite like the theme tune. The one-bid items are hysterically cheap – about £10-20, and the showcase only so much better (a TV and video recorder, and that’s it). I’ve got no idea what’s going on with Hole in One the thumbnail is suggesting, it feels like you either get the order completely correct, in which case you can putt a few inches from the hole, or you make a mistake in which case you have to putt from the longest spot (with obstacles!) regardless, although you seem to take your second putt from wherever the first one rests.

Anyway, Prijzenslag there. It ran from 1990 to 1993. Surely John De Mol’s finest hour.

In other news Robot Wars is apparently back on Sunday 26th at 7pm. EDIT: No apparently it isn’t now, March 5th.

Valentine’s Day

By | February 14, 2017

As is traditional, something romantic and inevitably Dutch for Valentine’s Day. We’ve mentioned this before but here’s a question, what UK show did Ron’s Honeymoon Quiz become in the early nineties? The biggest hints are probably about halfway through and the last twenty minutes or so.

Thank Fluke For That

By | February 13, 2017

Here’s some Monday fun, producer Richard Hearsey has uploaded the final episode of mid-nineties Tim Vine vehicle Fluke, where the points are pointless and skill and judgement don’t matter. It’s quite funny, but in retrospect one series was probably about right.

It’s Schlag den Star next Saturday! #bbsds

By | February 11, 2017

That’s right, join us as we spend next Saturday night embodying Reithian values when we inform, educate and entertain over another five hours of German megashow Schlag den Star, the first of six for the year. This month Elton will be hosting as handball icon Stefan Kretzschmar takes on pop star Tim Bendzko. There’s a new commentator in the form of Elmar Paulke, and the German Eurovision entrant will be guesting (with their song, presumably).

Meanwhile we’ll be trying to work out what’s going on and will have fun and games and interactivity during the adverts and boring bits.

So make sure you join us at 7:15pm UK time next Saturday!
