Show Discussion: Time Commanders

By | December 12, 2016

Mondays, 9pm,
BBC4

This almost slipped past but thankfully we remembered just in time, food critic and wargame fanatic Gregg Wallace (yes, really) oversees this three episode reboot of Time Commanders.

This time two teams will take on the computer war simulation (Total War, if you were wondering) before taking on each other in the final. In the first episode a team of wrestlers take on a team of board gamers and recreate Hannibal vs the Romans. Will history be changed?

Being honest I didn’t really watch Time Commanders first time round (although we’re certainly open to this sort of thing so it wasn’t on taste grounds) so I look forward to seeing how fans of the original compare this to the original.

Deal Or No Deal On Tour

By | December 11, 2016

Weekdays, 4pm,
Channel 4

We are totally stoked for this, something I reckon they should have done *years* ago, for the next two weeks to bring eleven years of Deal or No Deal to a close the Banker is taking his boxes on tour. But not just to places like, I don’t know, Acton or Weston-Super-Mare, that would not be very Noel Edmonds. Instead we’re getting TV’s most innovative man Noel Edmonds in excelsis – they’re doing it on The Flying Scotsman! They’re doing it hundreds of feet underground in Wookey Hole! And they’ll be playing Deal or No Deal on an actual in-flight aeroplane!

The game is the same, the classic original 22 box formula without modern day fripperies like the Offer Button and the rubbish Box 23. The board is hysterically lo-tech. The point is you can play the game literally anywhere, and so we’re really interested to see how it’s staged in each location. Although actually we know how they staged it at Alexandra Palace because I was there.

Tour schedule:

  • Monday 12th: The Flying Scotsman
  • Tuesday 13th: The Eden Project
  • Wednesday 14th: Warwick Castle
  • Thursday 15th: Alexandra Palace
  • Friday 16th: Trafford Centre, Manchester
  • Monday 19th: Blackpool Tower
  • Tuesday 20th: Wookey Hole, Somerset
  • Wednesday 21st: On a Boeing 747
  • Thursday and Friday – don’t know at time of writing, but they filmed one in the Lion’s enclosure at Longleat, Wiltshire and at the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow.

Bother’s Bar’s Festive Game Night looking for panellists #bbgn

By | December 11, 2016

Ho ho ho! Next Saturday night I am “doing” Bother’s Bar’s Festive Game Night, which is just like normal Game Night but with a couple of festive twists. Once again we will be live and interactive and you’ll be able to play along on your second screens and tweeting us.

I am once again on the look out for panellists. You’ll need to be available from 9:30pm to midnight-ish (don’t worry, it won’t clash with the Strictly final, although you might have to watch Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on iPlayer). You will need to have a working microphone, a second screen to play along with (a phone or tablet) and you will need to be contactable by Twitter.

If that sounds like you then please get in touch! And if you want to watch and play without the stress of public record then please join us here next Saturday night where there will be the live Youtube stream.

If you didn’t watch it last time this is what you missed:

There’s also still time to send us Drawful and Quiplash ideas.

It’s Schlag den Star Saturday! 10/12/16 #bbsds

By | December 9, 2016

eltonsdsSaturday,
7:15pm UK/8:15pm Germany,

Pro Sieben or naughty internet streaming

Tweet us! #bbsds

That’s right star schlaggers we’re back for another evening of celebrity challenges and commentary fun and frolics.

Join me and whoever turns up as we watch two German celebrities battle it out over fifteen games both spectacular and mundane for Elton’s €100,000 case – LIVE.

During the boring bits we’ll have our own games and gossip, and we’ll try and remember to read out your tweets on the #bbsds hashtag.

But who are our two gladiators battling it out on Saturday night? Why it’s bloody only the legendary dancer and fitness guru Detlef D! Soost and professional footballer Thorsten Legat! Music will be provided by Udo Lindenberg, Silbermond and Neiked.

It’s also Franck Buschmann’s final episode as commentator. Happily it looks like it should be much easier to stream this time round, fingers crossed.

Here is our commentary stream – live from 7:15!
This stream is commentary only. You will need to have a naughty stream running at the same time for the visuals. We are likely to be about 15-20 seconds behind the visual stream (and about a full minute behind if you’re watching an actual satellite feed), sorry.

This is the stream we will hopefully be viewing. It was working at time of writing, I will update if we need to change it. It shouldn’t require a login or anything like that.

Cash Trapped is looking for contestants for a second series

By | December 7, 2016

Almost tempted to have a go myself. Evidently the first series did well enough for a return so we’re intrigued to see where it ends up going. 3pm seems quite likely to me as Tipping Point leading into The Chase is doing great things for both, although I still think it’d be odd to have two lots of Brad in an afternoon.

Still I liked series one in the main so look forward to seeing if there’s any tweaks for series two.

It’s Schlag Saturday!

By | December 5, 2016

Join us LIVE from around 7:15pm on Saturday for the final Schlag den Star of the year and Frank Buschmann’s final Schlag den Star ever before moving to another channel. Elton will be officiating as two more celebs battle it out over 15 games for €100,000. German correspondent Nico W has this to say on our competitors:

It’s Torsten Legat, ex-footballer and well-known by yelling “Kasalla” in the sense Koreans say “fighting” on last year’s I’m a Celeb, and Detlef “D!” Soost choregrapher and coach and judge when Popstars was still a thing. The last things I’ve heard from him are his embarrassing “Imakeyousexy.com”-ads (his fitness programme) and he’s always accompanying Kate Hall (his girlfriend) when she’s singing somewhere. Which means you can watch them every time she tries to enter the ESC for Denmark, her home-country.

I’m rather disappointed with Prosieben choosing him, but paired with Legat this could mean great fun!

Thanks Nico and we’ll have our usual mix of commentary and messing about with games of our own during the boring bits, so do come along for that.

In the meantime Dan Leitch’s brilliant Youtube channel has come up with the goods again with a load of Christmas specials. He’s uploaded the Bob’s Full House 1984 and 1989 ones, which had been going around the circuit for a little while, but I hadn’t seen this 1985 one before (discounting the original broadcast). There are some 3-2-1 Christmas specials up as well.
