An old episode of Glücksrad

By | October 20, 2016

Whilst we sit here eagerly awaiting Society Game, here’s something that popped up on my Youtube a few nights ago, episode 34 of Glücksrad, which seems relevant given it recently relaunched in Germany (alongside Ruck Zuck). It’s a really early episode filmed on a rather tiny rather dark grey set, a little bit before the Glücksrad golden age (the next two set designs) which are my fave versions of the Wheel of Fortune format ever. Look out for what happens in round three which I don’t think I’ve ever seen happen before. Also features an advert for the German version of Captain Birds Eye fish fingers. Nur das Beste für den Tisch des Kapitäns!

The excitement isn’t over

By | October 18, 2016

Last week I told you we had never had it so good.

The party isn’t over yet.

  • The Jackbox Party Pack 3 is out today on Steam (£18.99, 10% discount this week), XBox One, PS4 (although not until tomorrow it looks like) and Amazon Fire TV (£20.47 at time of writing), with five more exciting and hilarious games to play with your friends. And we ask you to put Saturday October 29th down in your diaries as that’s going to be the date of the next Bother’s Bar Game Night. I’ll be pushing that more next week.
  • Society Game started Sunday and that means fingers crossed if we’re going to get an English translation it will likely be in the next few days. Society Game is the new Korean reality show made by some of the people behind The Genius and Endemol and is hence quite exciting. We will decide whether it warrants its own page in due course. Keep an eye on Bumdidlyumptious’ Twitter for any news.

Show Discussion: Rebound Series 2

Weekdays, 3pm,
ITV,

Sean Fletcher is back with another twenty episodes of Rebound, one of the few shows to replace The Chase in the Summer and come out the other side with moderately positive reviews and not disasterous ratings. How will it fare it 3pm? We will find out.

Six contestants face each other and the terrifying computerised bar bouncing back and forth across the studio in a quickfire-ish quiz to win a decently large amount of money.

We liked the first series with some caveats and look forward to seeing if it has made any positive changes for this second series. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Show Discussion: The Crystal Maze (for SU2C)

By | October 16, 2016

crystalmaze2016Sunday 16th October, 9pm,
Channel 4

It’s finally here. Finally finally. Everyone who is of a certain age’s favourite show returns after a 21-year absence to Channel 4 for a one-off filmed at the Crystal Maze Live Experience in an office block in London, hosted by Stephen Merchant with a Richard O’ Brien cameo and Maureen Lipman playing Mumsey. And a team of five celebrities.

We are so tremendously excited and yet so tremendously nervous.

We expect a certain amount of modernization (television has moved on in 21 years, but The Crystal Maze was largely ahead of its time), will it be borrowing from the good bits or the bad bits? The Live Experience is great fun to do but I didn’t think the sets were all that great and certainly I’m unsure how it will all come across on television, although we are aware they’ve spruced it up a little bit.

We know they’ve re-recorded the theme with an expensive full orchestra, and if they think they’re hiding that the bigger Manchester venue is being built with a full series in mind they’re not doing a great job of it.

Will it still work on television under these circumstances? We’re about to find out. Do let us know what you thought in the comments.

It’s Schlag den Star Saturday! 15/10/2016 #bbsds

Pro Sieben or naughty internet streaming

Tweet us! #bbsds

That’s right star schlaggers we’re back for another evening of celebrity challenges and commentary fun and frolics.

Join Dan, David, special guest regular Lewis, very possibly Scott if he checks his Twitter DMs and myself as we watch two German celebrities battle it out over fifteen games both spectacular and mundane for Elton’s €100,000 case – LIVE.

During the boring bits we’ll have our own games and gossip, and we’ll try and remember to read out your tweets on the #bbsds hashtag. I will also be EXCLUSIVELY REVEALING the date of the next Bother’s Bar Game Night and telling you how to get involved.

But who are our two gladiators battling it out on Saturday night? NONE OTHER THAN Olympic gymnast Fabian Hambüchen and “cult comedian” Bülent Ceylan. An abundance of umlauts but who has got what it takes to lift Elton’s big money suitcase? Musical acts are Sarah Connor & Henning Wehland and Clueso! My favourites!

I’m afraid it’s a bit more of a pain to watch the show live than it has been previously (although we’re also informed that our commentary has been enough). However are all the details you need – if you know of a better, simpler, reliable naughty Pro7 stream then please let us know:

Click for our commentary!
This stream is commentary only. You will need to have a naughty stream running at the same time for the visuals. We are likely to be about 15-20 seconds behind the visual stream (and about a full minute behind if you’re watching an actual satellite feed), sorry.

This is the stream we will be viewing. (this now requires a username and password – get one from here) Put the name and password in where it says “jetzt kostenlos anmelden”.

This may work as an alternative but it’s a bit pop-uppy.

You can also try looking up “Pro 7 Onlive Live” although we can’t guarantee dodginess of links.

Follow us on Twitter for immediate news if something goes wrong. Or because we’re fun guys!!!!

Amateur Adventure 52 Minutes

By | October 13, 2016

[Before we begin a reminder that it’s Schlag den Star on Saturday! Join us for gameshows and fun but not necessarily in equal measure LIVE from about 7:15pm UK time.]

Hey! We’ve not done this for a while but yesterday we were alerted by a French chum to an amateur take-off of La Carte aux Tresors called Le Qlub aux Tresors (Le Qlub appear to be some sort of French youth collective) which is surprisingly well done on a couple of Go Pros, video cameras and iPhones. Three contestants solve clues and do tasks in a race to find and unlock the treasure including getting a transfer tattoo and trying to find (what looks like) their dads in a car park to get a lift to the next destination. It does not have the helicopters but you can sense the ambition – we quite enjoyed the large amount of graphics and little biography bits of the places you get just like on the show. We also enjoyed watching the contestants try the gambit of trying to hitchhike lifts to the first destination by going up to cars and saying they’re from Carte aux Tresors, despite the fact the show was axed in 2009. They’ve even incorporated some elements of physical adventure challenge the show liked to provide as well.

The music’s used a bit haphazardly and the first fifteen minutes are probably a bit dull if you don’t know the language but it’s definitely worth sticking with, I was getting really into it by the end. This is episode two, apparently episode three is on the way.

If you quite enjoyed that somebody seems to be uploading archive episodes of the original right now.
