Who is the best mother in gameshows?

By | March 6, 2016

It’s Mother’s Day today in the UK (and Nigeria, according to Wikipedia) so it’s time to ask the question who is the best mother in gameshows?

The obvious answer is of course Mumsey from The Crystal Maze and here is Richard O’ Brien’s touching tribute:

Speaking of The Crystal Maze, the Live Experience is currently in its testing period and all signs are pointing to it being rather good – cynical as I was about the idea I’m quite looking forward to going in April.

Edit: Doubtless you might have noticed that we’re looking a bit different today. Basically I got fed up with how the site was working on my mobile so I’m trying out a few things. The new set up is a bit cleaner and uncluttered, if you’re having issues please let me know.

Female quizzers wanted for a pilot

By | March 1, 2016

Not sure what it’s about but Sean’s a Friend Of The Bar so:

We’re looking for some female quizzers for a pilot we’re filming very soon. If they could send their name, age and phone number to Sean.obrien@itv.com that would be grand.

Go for it. In other news Britain’s hardest working man Richard Osman will be fronting the new series of C4’s Child Genius, you can apply for tickets at SRO Audiences, it films in London and if that’s interesting to you you need to get in quick as it films this weekend.

Edit: This may well be Cash Trappedit’s been suggested.

Edit edit: You wait twenty years to see an episode of Remote Control UK then two turn up in the space of a month. This one featuring Dave Rainford off of Eggheads. Incredible.

Fool Us

By | February 29, 2016

So here’s fun. You might remember Penn and Teller: Fool Us – the show where magicians perform tricks in front of the star magicians and if they couldn’t work out how it was done they’d get invited to be a support act for their world famous Vegas show. We liked it, and after a successful pilot a so-so faring series on ITV followed, and then it was dropped. BUT! The ITV series was shown on The CW in the US, and was so successful for them they decided to make their own series with Jonathan Ross and everything last year. And that’s been successful enough to get a third run as well.

However the first US series is being broadcast on Channel 5 from Sunday look:

Our Eurovision song’s the best one in ages

By | February 27, 2016

Do you remember when Still In Love With You was initially revealed and everyone simultaneously went “that’s rubbish”?

Meet our not-quite-handsome-but-not-quite-ugly hopefuls for this year Joe and Jake, contestants from series four of The Voice UK who beat five other hopeful acts in the public vote to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in May. They’re sort of like a crap Busted, but in a good way. The song is called You’re Not Alone.

My clubbing days are behind me but if I was in an indie club and this came on we’d totally start jumping about to that chorus. I’d suggest initially at least it’s probably one level of intensity down from being truly great but who knows how it will develop between now and the 14th May.

Tom Scott’s Youtube Nerd Game Night

By | February 25, 2016

We were pretty stoked for this when we heard about it last month, Friend Of The Bar Tom Scott‘s new web series is Game On where four Youtube stars compete in head to head games of comedy, skill and strategy devised by Bother’s Bar Schlag den Raab live commentator David Bodycombe.

The first one today is Rock Paper Scissors Hammer Helmet, in a preview event I ended up smacking Tom Scott around the head with a pool noodle in a demonstration.

I know one of the other games coming up but I won’t spoil, other to say you’ll dig it if you dig The Genius Deathmatches. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series, you’re advised to subscribe to Tom’s Youtube channel for this and factual entertainment.
