Board of Excitement 8th-14th May 2011

By | May 8, 2011

Not much last week but this week I’m convinced I’ve missed something off the list, so if you can think of anything then please shout:

  • The Bother Series of Poker Game 9 – you don’t have to be a regular to play although it’s probably a bit late for a run at the league. But feel free to come and join the fun anyway. All the details are here. Here’s the results page. (8pm, Sunday, Full Tilt)
  • Scream If You Know The Answer! – Cheap and cheerful, it’s Hold Tight for the 2010’s and a new series with Duncan James starts tonight. Really enjoyed the first series, tonight John Thompson, John Barrowman, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe team up with members of the public to compete in games whilst on rollercoasters at Thorpe Park. Pity the punter that gets paired with Lee Ryan. (7pm and 7:30pm, Sunday, Watch)
  • The Cube – (7pm, Sunday, ITV1)
  • Deal or No Deal – It’s Banker’s Birthday week, and everyone’s playing  cowboys and indians. I like it when people on Digital Spy complain when a show has a bit of fun. I also notice they don’t compain that Countdown is on a bit too often. Or the news. (4:30pm Sunday, 4pm Monday-Friday, C4)
  • Show Me the Monet – I have no particular interest in art but quite enjoyed Watercolour Challenge back in the day, and as a Twitchum of mine has worked on this I’ll give it a mention. Chris Hollins off of BBC Breakfast challenges artists to create works to go in the Royal College of Art where if they get past the panel of judges will be put on exhibition and secretly bid on. (5:15pm, Weekdays, BBC2)
  • Eurovision Semi-Final One – I’ve not followed Eurovision at all this year, regrettable. But Scott Mills and Sarah Cawood Sara Cox are here to guide us through the first semi-final anyway. (8pm, Tuesday, BBC3)
  • The Apprentice – New series allowing everyone to compare and contrast twattish remarks. The series opener is on Tuesday, the next episode is on Wednesday and the next Wednesdays thereafter, which is annoying timing for me this year 🙁 (9pm, Tuesday and Wednesday, BBC1)
  • Eurovision Semi-final Two – Back to Dusseldorf. (8pm, Thursday, BBC3)
  • Impossible? Illusionist Philip Escoffey challenges people to decide if something that looks impossible is basically impossible or not under some railway arches for £40,000. (10pm, Thursday, Channel 5)
  • The Eurovision Song Contest Final – We’ve got a tenner on Blue to place top 4. Don’t let me down Europe! Graham Norton provides the commentary. (8pm, Saturday, BBC1)

Well, Adam and Dawn’s reign on Who Dares Wins is finally over…

A sad way for it to end, though.

If you’re reading this, Travis, I noticed a tweet of yours on Google Realtime Search in which you complained about your dad spoiling the result… 😆 😉

Assuming you’ve caught up on iPlayer, what did you think?

Haven’t watched it yet. Still stored on Sky+.

Few notes to add on that board.

Deal or No Deal – I suggest you watch the shows this week and avoid the promo video Endemol West have released on YouTube.

Eurovision – Don’t forget that Stefan Raab will be hosting both Semi Finals and the final along with Anke Engelke and Judith Rakers. If the information is correct on the Eurovision website then Jedward will perform last on Semi Final 2 on Thursday.

Surprised Sarah Cawood is doing commentary, surprised she is still around. Probably been thawed from the celebrity cryogenic freezer.

Your information is right, they’re the last entry to perform. In the semi we can’t vote in, thank God.

Whats interesting as well is next Saturday it’s the Radio One Big Weekend Roadshow from Carlisle. Presumably with Scott Mills roped into to doing something on Tuesday and Thursday backstage at Eurovision, and he has been over the past couple of years has been the UK votes announcer.

I wonder if the BBC will do what NDR have done in previous years, and get him to read the scores out from the stage of the One Big Weekend, with the slavering hordes behind him in shot?

Meanwhile: overnights – Don’t Scare the Hare up to a series high of 2.3m, and Sing If You Can is up almost a million to 4.1m. Secretly, I’m quite happy for SIYC.

In other news, a new series of Scream If You Know The Answer starts tonight on Watch! Great news.

I’m pitching my format idea to a production company on Tuesday. Wish me good luck 🙂

From a budding devisor you shot down in cold blood, I’d like to wish you good luck, but I read your idea and it stank. Sorry.

Does that mean that Joe doesn’t work at Endemol? CURIOUS…

I’m pitching to one of the divisions of Endemol. There are quite a few production companies in the UK alone which are owned by Endemol.

Ratings Bear, grr is back with last nights ratings.

    Don’t Habbit the Rabbit: 2.3m (14.9%)
So You Think You Cannot Dance – Dances: 3.5m (17.0%)
    Who Dares Wins: 4.1m (17.4%)
So You Think You Cannot Dance – Results: 3.3m (14.2%)
Sing if You Can Get Distration: 4.1m (20.1%)
    Britain’s Got Talent: 10.4m (42.2%)
The Million Pound Thicky People Drop Live: 1.9m (8.4%)

Surprised that Rabbit show is up compared to last week. Ratings Bear thinks they should’ve done a show called “Don’t Scare the Bear”, where conteststants complete challenges without waking up The Scare Bear, if they do then they get eaten, end of show.

Ratings Bear is impressed Kernick Kernowles continues to do well against Emperor Cow.. oh. Forgot, as Ratings Bear has been asleep and been to Australia, Emperor Cowell no longer appears. Let Ratings Bear say that again. Kernick Kernowles continues to do well against Queen Holden and her druken jester, Mike Knight-Buchannon.

Ratings Bear is disappointed Sing if You Can Get Distration has risen as Ratings Bear would now hunt down Stacey Solomon. However, he is still keeping an eye on Cat Deeley.

Ratings Bear is also keeping an eye on Davina McCall as Thicky People Drop Live ALYWAYS has 1.9m for each show and never rises.

I reckon the rise in Hare’s ratings is due to word getting around that it’s so bizarre that you have to see it. It’ll plummet from next week until the end.

Consistent ratings for MPD can’t be that bad, surely? In this house it’s proving the reliable, go-to thing to watch when we fancy shouting at numpties while drinking.

Yes, this, I imagine C4 will be pretty happy at a steady 1.9m in that slot on a weekly basis.

It’s guaranteed to plummet next week as it’s getting dumped to 4.35pm next week.

Slightly kneejerk reaction, if you ask me – especially as the ratings went up so much this week. Still, if the AI is that bad…

Nicole S doing a Brian Dunkleman, I wonder? Just to get US viewers used to the real host, who’s currently a bit too unknown and too British?

I don’t hate him, I thought he was quite good on Drop Zone, but he has a certain pretty-boyness about him that turns some people off.

And they do Cash Dash on Saw, which gives them a bit longer than the ride they used last year.

There were lots of ride break downs this series leading to a last minute change of game.
Personally I think it’s nice to see a different ride used in the end game now and then.

It’s the Royal College of Art in ‘Show Me The Monet’ – not Tate Modern. Thanks for the mention though.

Nice recovery for The Cube- 4.3 million when you factor in the +1- the 7pm slot seems to work the best…

Meanwhile, @TVPB suggesting Scream! got about 70k and 55k on their first showing, but another 45k and 60k on Watch +1. Hatstand.

Wot, no £20 back to turn up to cover the ‘travelling costs’ like the Saudi Arabian version?

The Million Pound Drop won a BAFTA Craft Award last night. Well deserved because in terms of incorporating a game show to a digital/online environment, none are better than MPD.

Yeah, The Cube got one too. Great news!! I’m sure you’ll be the first to congratulate Objective.

Right, for the record, MPD win the award for Digital Creativity (for the webgame, presumably) and The Cube won Entertainment Craft Team, whatever that entails.

Probably for the set design, the cube and what is placed inside.

Ironic that MPD won a BAFTA for their webgame but crashed over the weekend.

This will probably be on iPlayer, Tony Livesey chatting about gameshows with pro contestant Andy Kelly on 5Live. It will be towards the back end of Monday’s episode, I’ve just caught the end of it.

They are good to their word, Sky are continuing to give Challenge more funding. They have done a deal with Endemol & BBC to broadcast repeats of Pointless. Repeats begin from Monday 23rd May at 2pm. Hopefully it will be the never repeated series one.
