And so we come to this, the pointless second series of the botched up revival of The Crystal Maze, and rather brilliantly rather than take on board the criticisms of the various first series’ of the show that saw four million eagerly expectant viewers tune in for, only for 80% of them to give up, to all intents and purposes it sounds like they’ve doubled down on the elements everyone complained about – so Channel 4! Needless to say we look forward to not enough (30 in this run) new “multilayered” games you can easily recreate at home, therefore losing any sort of aspirational element of watching them on TV and playing fewer games so we can get to know the personalities of the contestants, many of whom have already done reality television and whose personalities we’re already aware of anyway.
Still, that Richard Ayoade’s perfect isn’t he? So sarcastic!
Channel 4 have scheduled this against Love Island.
It largely doesn’t matter if this series is critically better than the last one – people aren’t going to flock back to it. Still, let us know what you think in the comments.
