Show Discussion: Fort Boyard France 2012

By | July 7, 2012

7:35pm UK time, France 2

It’s the most exciting day of the year! When all the speculation comes to an end and we get to see what precisely they’ve done with the show this year. It looks like it’s an expansion on last year’s ideas – more room theming and greater emphasis on the new adventures of which there are lots. There’s a new actress playing Judge Blanche and new gaming tables in the Council, the significance of which is yet to be determined. It also sounds like there are only three games played in the Council this time round, with 3:15 as a base time for the Treasure Room and games worth +/- 10, 15 and 20 seconds, which doesn’t change the fact that if it’s anything like last year it feels a lot of effort for not much reward, and if you started at 2:30 and just made the games worth 20, 30 and 40 seconds if they got won is exactly the same maths but feel a lot more rewarding and a lot less of a waste of time.

Still though.

You’re probably wondering how you’re going to watch this. At the moment the only solution I know, short of installing a satellite dish, is a paid for one – sign up to a VPN with locations in France (VyprVPN is the one I use) then watch it on Pluzz. Other solutions may present themselves, and if anyone finds any they are welcome to put it in a comment.

If you have TV5Monde Europe you can watch last year’s episodes on Saturday nights from 5:25-ish, and you can see our show discussion post for that series here.

Here’s this year’s pre-title sequence showing a lot of the things off, courtesy of fortboyard.net:

Rude anagram

(Copyright Charlie Brooker) Gok Wan will apparently be hosting Channel 4’s version of Stateside Jerry Springer fronted sleeper hit Baggage. It’s a dating show where increasingly big secrets get revealed about the contestants throughout the show. I can imagine Wan bringing a fun camp element to it. I gather the UK version will be hour long episodes.

Meanwhile, whilst Ask the Nation on next week’s Millionaire isn’t much of a surprise, there will apparently be a playalong game.

The Blobbyguard

Well here’s a bit of a turn up for the books, it looks like Noel Edmonds is sneaking back onto primetime Saturday night BBC1, he’s going to be hosting the pilot of comedy action game The Bodyguard on Wednesday 17th July at Elstree. Tickets still avaliable on SRO, I want to go but unfortunately I can’t because of work commitments. Really annoyed about that now, actually. If you go and want to write it up for us, please let me know.

King of the Mountains

OK, lots asked if there will be poker games in the off-season, the answer is YES – keep the evening of Thursday 12th July free – 8:30pm start.

It’s Le Tour, so it’s time for Le Tournoi – KING OF THE MOUNTAINS – hold ‘em as a second category climb.

– 5,000 starting stack
– 5 minute levels
– $10+1 buy-in
– Dope yourself up with an optional rebuy or add-on ($10 each limited to one rebuy in the first half hour, add-ons worth 7,000 chips), or try to win it clean!
– Winner Takes All.

I’m also going on a poker trip to London very soon, so if that goes well I might add some value. And if it doesn’t I won’t.

This is likely to take 2-3 hours depending on how many players we get.

You will need to be a member of Brig’s Poker Club to play, all the details can be found here. Don’t leave it to the last minute as I have to approve all new memberships, but becoming a member is free.

Show Discussion: Tipping Point

Weekdaily, 5pm, ITV1
20 episodes

Ben Shephard hosts a gameshow based around those coin pushers you see in arcades. Contestants use “skill and strategy” in order to earn the right to play the machine which could pay out as much as £10,000 if they’re very lucky. It’s lucky there’s £10,000 in it, because the machine itself looks a bit bland from the previews. Still though.
