Board of Excitement 28th March – 3rd April 2010

By | March 27, 2010
  • The clocks going forward (2am, Sunday) – don’t forget the clocks have gone forward. It’s now OFFICIALLY Summer.
  • The Amazing Race (Sunday, CBS) – this has been highly entertaining so far, and I’m in the unusal position in that I quite like all the teams left in it. Considering the nature of liquid, I was quite surporised and impressed when the boys’ champagne tower held up, where the top levels were just one glass on top of another on top of another.
  • Only Connect (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4) – David’s favourite episode apparently! The first semi-final, the Archers Admirers vs the Gamblers. My money’s on the Gamblers.
  • Survivor (Thursday, CBS) – the previous episode must be one of the all time greats, if not THE all time greatest episode. Boston Rob and Russell, two completely brilliant players of the game, trying to outsmart each other is absolutely terrific telly, and if persuading Tyson to change his vote which ultimately did him in was genuine and not producer contrived then I’m very, very, very impressed. And you’ve gotta love Colby.
  • The Door (9pm, ITV, Good Friday and Easter Saturday) – just saw the trailer on the website, this might actually be rather good if you like this sort of thing, which I do. Enter a room, do a nasty task, get out before everyone else does – very Estate of Panic, which is rather what I was hoping it would be like.

Saturday Special

By | March 27, 2010

You can actually watch the entire episode on Dailymotion if you want (and you didn’t watch when it was linked to some time ago), just search for Xapatan. If your French is better than mine (tres likely), do feel free to fill in the gaps and correct the mistakes.

Count Up

By | March 26, 2010

Thanks to those who have pointed out that Countdown reaches episode 5,000 today, and has indeed been comissioned to run through to 2012. After the initial apparent fall, ratings have stabilized and risen, presumably.

Despite the fact it’s not a show I follow avidly (proper job, and all that) I am pleased for them, because having visited the show being recorded the production team seemed like a very professional outfit with a proper love for the show, and it’s also one in the face for everyone who thought Jeff and Rachel wouldn’t work. Well… evidently it has.

And the word “fucked” came up in anagram form on a letters board the other day! Brilliant.

Sorry

There’s not much very interesting going on and I’ve got a headache.

Still, BLOODY HELL this week’s Survivor is good. I’m sorry I strayed for a few years, Jeff 🙁

Talking Telephone Numbers

By | March 23, 2010

Thanks to Travis for alerting us to this, I was aware Stephen Mulhern’s Magic Numbers (it’s clever cos he’s a magician) got a six-week commission for later on in the year, but this bit is interesting:

“It works like this….across the show the outcome of every exhilarating stunt, game and challenge will give us a number between 0 and 9. Finally, as the show builds to a conclusion, we’ll have a total of five numbers. Together these make up Magic Numbers. And if two of the Magic Numbers match two of the last five digits of your telephone number – in any order. The lucky viewer who is chosen from all those who have qualified to take part, are playing live from home with the chance to win £250,000″

So Talking Telephone Numbers then, except in a brilliant twist, you’d have to be really unlucky not to be able to be allowed to ring a premium phone line to take part.

Meanwhile, you can now get tickets for the new series of Shooting Stars recording in April at TV Centre, although tickets will be allocated by random draw it’s so massively popular. Blimey. And also A Question of Sport, but evidently that’s not as popular despite demanding more viewers, presumably.

Details for the next BotherSOP game in two-and-a-half week’s time are now up on the BotherSOP page.
