My Man Can picked up

By | April 26, 2012

Looks like the pilot they filmed recently was successful, it’s been picked up for six 75 minute episodes for 2013. Melanie Sykes and Mark Wright to host.

I wrote about the original German show earlier in the year.

Unrelatedly: 6:30pm – 10pm at the South Bank Centre in that London, the lovely Hide and Seek people are having a night of games inspired by sports and game shows. Still room to run a game of your own there if you want, but talk to Holly first and see if you can develop something to run there. I guess that, among other things, it might be a good venue to perform a run through of any original game show formats you might have, particularly if they are sufficiently thematic to blur the lines between audience and participants.

Hi there – thanks for mentioning the Hide and Seek stuff – that sounds really interesting. I would love to know more. Who would be the best person for me to contact? Thanks! Keri

Following this up, a provisional list of games has been released. Painfully brilliant-looking, particularly the Knightmare tribute. I’m working day shifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so won’t be there – hence the pain of the brilliance – but dearly hope someone can go and report.

For those who never saw Brig’s retweet earlier: Blockbusters on Challenge will now begin on May 14, not May 8th

I’d think they would do more games with a set time limit so they know how long it will go- they could also cut a round (do the first elimination after 3 rounds, the second one after 5).

It’s definitely decent but I’m sure I can see small thermonuclear explosions coming from the general direction of Brookfield Community School, origin of many a previous Amateur Adventure hour…

I quite like it, the titles appear to be paying homage to some of the scenes shown in previous title sequences. The Globe and the City Scape from the original and the head from the Aspel days.

It’s OK, but not really as good as the title sequence we all know and love. It’s semi-good, it’s quasi-good, it’s the Diet Coke of good, just 1 calorie, not quite good enough. Although, saying that, I DO like the hexagonal ‘towers’ that rise out of the ground, that’s a nice touch. If it had the whole theme music, it would have been better, I think.

Bit disappointed, really. Given that it’s a one hour slot, surely they could’ve spent a bit extra to make it a proper 30 second version? And it sounds a bit thin at the start and end.

Why 2012 theme tunes sound worse than 1983 ones is a constant source of amazement. I know we can’t afford session musicians and the like, but surely someone has a decent set of guitar samplers these days?
