Bother’s Bar Plays Badly: Codenames Online

By | March 28, 2021

We’re back with more hot consumer advice, only this time the game is free and surprisingly fully featured. Eight of us have a go at Codenames Online (codenames.game), the word association game that swept the world. Can the spymasters get their team to contact the agents in the field just with some well chosen clues? Yes! And yet also no!

In the first game I’m playing a spymaster and you get a kind of director’s commentary of what I’m doing, which is usually willing my team to pick the correct words and ignore the wrong ones.

It’s the C21 International Format Awards Shortlists!

By | March 26, 2021

Do you remember when they awarded Format of the Year to Bother’s Bar and general audience non-favourite Take On The Twisters? Good times. Let’s relive that classic moment when that was revealed back in 2013:

For some reason they take it more seriously now and put quite good shows on the shortlists. Gods of the Game! Taskmaster! De Mol! Rolling In It! Don’t.

Find out what wins on April 13th.

This is mainly a reminder to me to check it out, but I’m informed Dutch Celebrity Werewolf is a big hit.

Has anyone looked at it yet?

Bother’s Bar Plays Badly: Papa’s Quiz on Steam

By | March 21, 2021

We’re back with more HOT consumer advice for you, the viewer. Released in December last year, Papa’s Quiz is a party game quiz you play on your phones Jackbox style with more than a hint of Buzz! about it, but what it lacks in that game’s slickness makes up for with quirky charm, category jostling and dance moves (probably could do with more to be honest). £9.29 pro-o-o-bably a bit high given you can get actual Jackbox for less with a sale, but there are less entertaining things you can spend your money on.

Guess who’s just recorded and uploaded and realised he wasn’t capturing everyone else’s chat. The game speaks for itself well enough though.

Are you free on Wednesday afternoon, close to London and want to take part in a quiz run through?

By | March 19, 2021

FOTB Paul writes:

“The makers of The Big Narstie Show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, and Mel Giedroyc’s Unforgivable urgently need pairs of contestants (who live together or are part of the same bubble) to take part in a run-through of an exciting new quiz format NEXT WEDNESDAY (24th March) from 2pm until 6pm.

This is a fun and light-hearted show (think Catchphrase, Family Fortunes or Supermarket Sweep). You don’t need amazing general knowledge, just big energy and a willingness to join in.

The run-through won’t be recorded, but it should be an entertaining afternoon. Participants will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses within London, and paid a small fee for their time, with a further cash prize for the winners.
