- What are you doing on Sunday? No, other than that? Well we’re having a good old fun game of Razz from 8pm as the second game in the Mix It Up Real Good series and you’re more than welcome to join us. It’s free to play but don’t register for the tourney and then not turn up otherwise your unsportsmanlike behavior may be PUNISHED.
- If you don’t fancy MySkyRewards, Applause Store have one recording sessions worth of tickets to give away for Blockbusters. Oh, actually a few more dates have popped up since we last checked. Anyway, I’m not sure I can be bothered but you never know (busy month, train fare, it’s Blockbusters etc) but if anyone reading is going and wants to write a report let me know.
- We’ve been reading the good fun Gameshow Confessions blog recently. It’s US based, and the confessions run the gamut from ‘stating the bleeding obvious’ to ‘absolutely mental’. We like the way they’re presented.
- JOE RAZZ!
- ITV has ordered a pilot for a panel show called Trending Topics with the involvement of Jonathan Ross. That doesn’t sound like Wall of Fame at all (@tvscoops).
Something to read
Here’s something I bashed out for fun culture blog and fellow East Anglians Shouting at Cows regarding “brilliantly terrible gameshow conceits”. It wasn’t a top five in my head but has otherwise been nicely sub-edited. They are probably not the worst shows, but have been away from the public conciousness enough to make them interesting to mention.
I’d like to thank the production music conversation for highlighting the work of Simon Etchell.
Duel
Right, quiet week. Don’t forget it’s The Exit List tonight at 8pm.
So let’s root through the Youtube archive and see what we can come up with… ah! This will do, Duel with Nick Hancock:

Still surprised nobody tried turning it into a daily afternoon format. It beat Only Connect in the 2008 Hall of Fame as well.
Notices 23/1/12
- ThatDarkSpark has popped in to say that an anglicised episode three of Wie Ist De Mol? is now up.
- SRO seem to have backtracked on the Griff Rhys-Jones live panel show thing (previously called A Short History of Almost Everything) by playing down its live credentials and renaming it (I presume not its final title) The TV Archive Quiz. The recording dates don’t seem to have changed though.
- I hope to have an iThing review of Catchphrase for you sometime this week.
No excitement this week.
So here instead are some notices:
- The Voice UK has begun recording! Reports have run the gamut from “it was amazing” to this DS post that backs up its opinions with reasons. It is quite interesting they’re going up to teams of 10.
- We have been delving through online production music libraries. Take a look, that Track 5 is really bugging me.
- Tonight sees the second round of the Bother Series of Poker main event. It starts at 8pm and will cost you £5.50 (about $8.60 at today’s rate) to play and it is open to everybody. If you haven’t joined the club yet, you’re advised to do so early because I have to approve your membership. See you there!
The King of Teatime Quizzes
For whatever reason I felt the urge to watch an episode of Dick ‘n’ Dom’s Ask the Family last night. And happily the final episode is up on Youtube:
Although unfortunately by this point in the run most of the madness had been toned down after it had been so poorly received. Pity.
In other news, and this might be interesting, Griff Rhys-Jones is fronting a comedy panel game called A Short History of Almost Everything which will be going out LIVE on Mondays from February 20th on Channel 4. Viewers will be able to play along and dictate the scores, apparently. Tickets here, although I don’t know how much you’ll be missing if you just watch it on telly. Will it be on a delay to cut out the fun libellous stuff?
I guess this also gives a hint as to when The Bank Job is happening, as it’s 9pm entry presumably for 10pm start. So TBJ won’t be on Monday nights at 10 from the middle of February.
