It’s BB-ack

ITV2 and streaming on ITVX, six weeks, 2023.

Reports suggesting it’s going to be an “all walks of life” Big Brother, and it will feature tasks, nominations, public voting and live evictions.

Six weeks feels awfully short for a civvy Big Brother, but I always thought once I turned about thirty that an hour a day for three months plus is a big time commitment, I’m much more inclined to watch more than the opening night knowing it’s not going to take over my life. A host has not been announced. No idea where the house will be (it’s very possible they just rig up somewhere that already exists Love Island style rather than build a new one from scratch). And we don’t know if there’s going to be the spin-off shows (it did get to a point where I followed BB vicariously through BOTS at one point).

Hang (Tough) on, what?

The BBC are reviving Gladiators!

I think there are a lot of question marks over what Gladiators looks like in 2022 (2023 presumably), not least in terms of what would be allowable with modern health and safety – we all want Pyramid back, but it caused so many injuries. And this feels like an *expensive* show for the BBC to make. Still though, consider us intrigued.

Bother’s Bar Plays Badly: Koh-Lanta

By | July 24, 2022

Content! Sometime in the last week Koh-Lanta (French Survivor) surprise dropped in the UK Switch e-Shop, despite meaning to have been released last Autumn. Searching for it on XBox, it’s also been released there as well, so we thought we’d buy that one to really show off the potential of the Series X, ahem.

We can’t in good conscience suggest you drop £35 on it for any version. What I would suggest is that the game’s overall puzzle – that of energy and resource management, is a surprisingly engaging one (at least for the first few adventures), and that your energy levels determining how difficult the challenges are is mildly clever, but it’s a pity there aren’t that many of them (14 total), they’re largely not great by Mario Party standards and the lack of camera control makes some of them extremely annoying.

The Gladpod

By | July 23, 2022

We mentioned it a few years ago when it first started, but I want to signal boost Gladiators TV’s The Gladpod which just finished its second run which has had dome tremendous interviewees the last few weeks and is well worth catching up with for Glads fans – the previous episode’s guest was the King of Light Entertainment Nigel Lythgoe and the series ender is none other than Michael van Wijk aka Wolf, who is pretty much as entertaining as you’d hope and also features some interesting stories regarding inter-Gladiator politics and the like. Give it a listen.

The Cool Down

It’s the final heat of Bother’s Bar’s Hot Week and what better way to end than a bizarre series of seemingly random clips from big money ITV Saturday night non-hit Ice Warriors.

Of note: we remember the Top Trumps style ratings for each of the Ice Warriors (which sometimes had a statistic for Magic), but pity Zaran the Serene who, having worked hard over many years to become an Ice Warrior, has been given a Skill rating of 1 out of 5. Bit harsh.
