Real life couple Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford challenge couples to win their wedding lists and a lovely holiday in a show that sounds part Who Dares Wins and part Mr and Mrs.

Can’t say it sounds too thrilling, but we shall try and keep an open mind. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Shows looking for contestants

By | August 15, 2014

Tell ’em we sent you:

  • It looks like S4C are making their very own version of Bother’s Bar One to Watch The Lie. Being S4C, you will almost certainly need to be a fluent Welsh speaker. If you’re interested, send a mail to celwydd.noeth@cwmnida.tv.
  • NBCUniversal (of The 21st Question fame) are looking for contestants for a pilot reality show. “You should be super-competitive, confident and have lots of enthusiasm. The shy and retiring need not apply.” It sounds like there will be a cash prize, but you might want to enquire about that before putting pen to paper. You will need to live in the London area and be eighteen or over, auditions August and September. Email contestants@nbcuni.com for further details.
  • Sounds like Sunday Night at the Palladium is going to have a game element. Beat the Clock? Apply here.
  • The Link is looking for contestants despite everything, details SRO.

Possessed TV

By | August 14, 2014

So this is exciting, Glenn Hugill’s started an entertainment indie called Possessed TV, working under ITV Studios.

ITV Studios press release.

It’s no secret that Hugill’s been one of our favourite telly people over the last fifteen years, responsible for more high quality stuff that’s piqued our interest than basically anyone else so we wish him best of luck with this venture, and that he gets on with it and buys the rights to The Genius.

Stuff post

By | August 12, 2014

Not been a new post for a few days, and I don’t have much to say, so have this as a general forum.

Intrigued to see how Judge Rinder on ITV does – court shows are not really game shows, but they’re certainly unscripted (although I’d be interested to know how many of his catty remarks are off the cuff and how many have been prepared in advance) and formatted and therefore of interest – UK daytime seems to be US daytime plus twenty years, so if it takes off there might be a flood of copycats which would be bad news for gameshow developers, but good news for entertaining solicitors. I certainly think it’s got stuff going for it (although an hour of it is probably a bit much), they’ve found someone who’d fit right in doing guest spots on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. And really these are the sorts of people ITV ought to be trying to find more of.

Show Discussion: Come on Down! The Game Show Story

By | August 9, 2014

comeondownSundays 7pm,
ITV

Unusual for us to do this for a documentary series, but this looks like it might be quite good and has had various people we know working on it.

The nation’s sweetheart Bradley Walsh takes a four-part look at the history of the game show featuring interviews with legends and contemporaries, clips and recreations.

It’s primetime ITV so likely to err on the side of entertaining  rather than BBC4 dry factual but don’t let that put you off, it’s quite exciting that this has got made in the first place.
