Stuff post

By | August 12, 2014

Not been a new post for a few days, and I don’t have much to say, so have this as a general forum.

Intrigued to see how Judge Rinder on ITV does – court shows are not really game shows, but they’re certainly unscripted (although I’d be interested to know how many of his catty remarks are off the cuff and how many have been prepared in advance) and formatted and therefore of interest – UK daytime seems to be US daytime plus twenty years, so if it takes off there might be a flood of copycats which would be bad news for gameshow developers, but good news for entertaining solicitors. I certainly think it’s got stuff going for it (although an hour of it is probably a bit much), they’ve found someone who’d fit right in doing guest spots on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. And really these are the sorts of people ITV ought to be trying to find more of.

Thanks Paul. Looks decent for Judge Rinder.

Do you know how The Chase did at 12.30pm? Cheers.

Cheers Paul. Not too bad for Summer slot filler but they’d be better off leaving it at 5pm and trying the new shows at lunchtime instead.

Highly interested to see how Judge Rinder fares in the next few weeks – Judge Judy is the biggest show in US Syndication right now and costs practically nothing to produce – it’s a license to print money.

I highly doubt JR will have anything like the impact of JJ, but it could certainly become a very useful and versatile show for ITV daytimes.

TX2 managed 0.94 (14.3%). Can’t be bothered with more ratings today. Nothing particularly noteworthy.

Does this call for a flashback to All Rise for Julian Clary? Or whatever that was called.

Right, well this is completely apropos of nothing, but here goes.

I can’t understand why, in the final chase, the chaser is moved back when the team get one that the chaser didn’t, rather than the team being moved forward. I think it would be *much* better fitting to the idea of a ‘chase’ to have both sides moving. Any thoughts?

Personally I like the finite end point. The team amasses the number of steps required, and that value doesn’t change. “Chaser, you now need [n+1] steps” doesn’t sit right for me.

Good point. It would also solve the “the Chaser is on zero so can’t be pushed back, so we’ll push you forward” ugliness.

Presumably, because it’s easier to animate if the number of steps the team is on doesn’t change.

        (For two reasons:
        – The team could amass too many steps, making the graphics a total mess.
        – If the team gains an extra step, and the Chaser is on a non-zero total, then for the graphics, you have to do some funky resizing of the square the Chaser is on. There’s no need to worry about this if the team’s total is fixed.)
